Be it known that 1, PAUL PUGNIET, citizen of France, residing at Paris, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspender Clips '(for which I have filed an application in France May 8, 1914, Patent No. 471,960), of which the following is a specification.

Suspender clips actually in use rapidly wear out stockings or are constructed in a defective manner.

For avoiding the great disadvantage of wearing out the stockings, devices have been proposed in which any rigid part in contact with the stocking was done away with; these devices constituted by a button-hole formed in cloth, leather or other like material wear out rapidly because of their construction. Other devices constituted by a twist wear out rapidly and are of complicated manufacture by reason of their closing system which consists in a constant sliding movement.

Finally, devices have been proposed in which the part in contact with the stocking was flexible andentirely made of rubber. This rubber the two ends of which were held by each of the metal branches forming the upper part of the buckle did not give any strength to the device and under the effect of traction the rubber was stretched, out and torn.

The clip forming the subject matter of this invention has the following advantages over the known devices:

1. It cannot tear the stockings, even the thinnest.

2. It can be very easily put in place.

3. It cannot be injured and is very strong.

4. It can be manufactured easily and in a simple manner and does not present any cutting metal parts.

It is characterized by:

1. The constitution of the upper portion of the buckle by a metal member in which are provided, at the ends, two stamped parts which are superimposed by bending them back on each other, thus firmly securing, after setting, the web of the body of the buckle, which latter may be constituted by one or more flexible wires, or hemp, silk or other threads and the ring serving to secure the device to the fabric of the suspender.

The ends of these two stamped parts will be folded back on each other thus doing away with any cutting part.

2. The constitution of the lower part of the buckle by a rubber tube covered or not with any material and reinforced at its innor part with a flexible and supple body very resistant to traction stresses; both ends of this flexible body are connected by a metal connection, stitching, knot of other means. 1 i

The button is of any type whatever and its mode of connection to the device is effected in any suitable manner,

A form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

-As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the clip comprises a flexible loop a secured to a metal part Z) carrying a flattened ring 0 to which is attached the fabric of the Suspender; the button (Z is attached to the clip by means of a twist 'or a piece of fabric secured to the clip by stitching or otherwise.

As illustrated in Fig. 3, the flexible loop is constituted by a rubber tube 7 in which is introduced a string, Wire or other flexible body 9, very resistant to traction stresses and having a diameter nearly equal to the inner diameter of the tube 7; both ends of the string are connected by a knot h or in any other way.

The metal portion is constituted by two stamped parts i 7' adapted to receive the string or thread introduced in the tube of the flexible loop a. The ends is of these stamped parts are folded on each other within the grooves so as to form a rounded bead which thus cannot injure the ends of the tube 7, which ends simply fit in the two assembled stamped parts '13, 7' shown in Fig. 4.

The raised edges L Fig. 4, will be, by seting, fo de back on the other part m for ensuring the attachment of the string or other flexible body and of the ring to which Will be secured the fabric of the suspender.

The assemblage of this device will be effected in the following manner:

The ring 0, is introduced at 0, then the string or Wire f of the loop a is arranged in the groove j, the junction it being placed at the middle of the groove; the part at is then bent back on the part 77 for holding, on the one hand, the ring 0 and, on the other hand, the supple Wire or string 7 of the loop a. The raised edgesZ of the part 22 are then bent back on the edges of the part m, thus firmly securing the parts a and 0 in position and providing only rounded metal parts even on the back face of the buckle.

For fixing the clip to the stocking, it suffices to insert the button covered by the stocking in the flexible loop. This operation is so much the more easy as the constitution of the clip permits of maintaining the loop in a suitable Well opened form to receive very easily the button covered with the stocking. Any slipping down of the stocking is also avoided, as under the traction stresses the branches of the buckle tighten. Moreover, these branches being rounded and supple will not injure the stockings, even the thinnest.

Finally, it Will be noted that this flexible clip cannot become deteriorated because of the construction and arrangement of the buckle. It Will be easily understood that the traction stresses will not be exerted on the rubber tube but on the string or flexible body located Within the latter.

The invention is not limited only to the construction of the loop in reinforced rubber, as this loop, according to circumstances, may be made of fabric, leather or any other material giving the same advantages, the ends being also connected in any manner Whatever. This modification can be applied to ladies suspenders, but preferably to socksuspenders Which are subjected to less strain.

I claim:

1. The herein described suspender clip comprising a body of metal bent backivarc upon itself and set to form and having grooves, a flexible loop secured in said grooves, and a flattened ring secured in the bend of said body for attachment to the fabric of the SHSPGIlClfil.

2. The herein described suspender clip comprising a body of metal bent backward upon itself and set to 1 form and having grooves, a flexible loop secured in said grooves, a flattened ring retained in the bend of said body for attachment to the fabric of the suspender, and a reinforce for said loop.

8. The herein described suspender clip comprising a body of metal bentbackward upon itself and set to form, a metal part, a fleXib1e loop secured to said body part, a flattened ring carried by said body part for attachment to the fabric of the suspender, and a reinforce for said loop, said flexible loop being formed of a rubber tube and the said reinforce being united Within a space in said body part.
