UNITED TATES' FFICE.
LEVI L. LAMB, OF CHELSEA, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND SEWELL K. LOVEWELL, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOOL-RECEPTACLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,934, dated August 19, 1873; application filed May 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI LYSANDER LAMB, of Chelsea, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Die Stand, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of my improved diestand on the line at m, Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same, partlyin section, on line 0 c, Fig. 1.]
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish, for the use of mechanics, artisans, and machin ists, an improved die-stand, into which the different dies for marking metal-work are placed, to be protected thereby against loss or accidental damage. My invention consists of a case of suitable material, surrounding a block with holes, corresponding to the number of dies, into which they are inserted through a perforated top, and inclosed therein by a revolving cover-plate.
Ain the drawing represents the outer case, preferably of cylindrical shape and of any suitable material. A short vertical bolt or pin, a, placed centrally on the bottom of case A, serves as support to spiral spring I), which is inserted in a centrallylocated vertical recess, b, of block B, supporting the same by its spring action. By a recess, d, and bolt 0 of case A,or other equivalent means, block B can readily adjust itself vertically on spring I), but is prevented from revolving. Block B is of wood, and provided with a series of holes, f, arranged symmetrically in the same, for the reception of the dies. These holes f are extended into the block as far as required for the length of the dies. A square recess, g, on the upper part of block B, in the center of the same, serves as a rest for the round block B. The stem i projects above top plate D, the diameter of aperture t" of plate D being large enough to permit the square stem c to freely turn therein. The inside plate 0 follows readily the rotation of stem i, so that its perforations may be brought to coincide with those of block B and plate D. The dies are placed into the holes of the block when the perforations of the top plates coincide, and a downward pressure and turn being then imparted to the button It, carries block B downward and rotates plate 0, so that its perforations shall no longer coincide with those of the top plate and of the block. N 0 die can, therefore, drop out or be taken out till by the reversed operation on button 70 the holes in plate 0 are again brought in line with those in plate D and block B'.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The die-block B f, movable on guide 0 and spring supported in case A, the squared rotary stem t swiveled in die-block, the square] yapertured, perforated, and spring supported plate (3, and the perforated top D, combined as and for the purpose described.
