Description
4 NITED STATES PATENT CEEIGE.
WARD B. CARPENTER, OF WEST TOPSHAM, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN cales.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,9l8, dated August 19, 1873 application led Y May 31, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARD B. CARPENTER, of' W'est Topsham, in county of Orange and State of Vermont, have invented a new and Improved Ohilds Crib Attachment, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a vertical transverse section of a crib with my attachment in position for rocking 5 Fig. 2, an end view oi the 'crib with parts broken off,`showing the attachment in such a position that the crib rests on the casters; and Eig. 3 is a detail longitudinal section through the crib, with a side view of attachment.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment to a crib, by means of which the same can be readily changed from the rocking position. into a stationary one without being perceptible to the child sleeping therein, and permittingthe quick and easy removal of the crib from one place to another. My invention consists of a slide attachment pivoted centrally to the rockers, made of two halves, having casters at their outer ends, by which the rocking crib can be changed directly into a crib moving on casters.
In the drawing, A represents the crib; B, the rockers, pivoted to the legs thereof 5 and O the vertical slides moving in recesses in the head and foot boards of the crib A. Each rocker B is made of two halves, pivoted centrally between the legs to the lower end of slide C. The outer ends of the rocker posts B are notched or recessed at the lower side, and provided with the common furniture-casters a'in such a manner that the same do not interfere with the rocking motion of rockers B. A longitudinal shaft, b, hangs in staples d of head and foot boards, and is provided with a crank, e, by which it may be turned between buttons e of the crib. To disks f of rod b, or their equivalent, are pivoted eccentrically the connecting rods g, which are also pivoted, with their lower ends, to the slide-pieces C.
0n turning the crank e from one button, e', to the other, the slide pieces G are raised by the eccentric rods g, and the pivoted rocker posts B drawn upward with them till they rest on casters a at the recessed ends thereof. The crib may thereby be easily changed from the rocking position int-o one resting on casters Without disturbing the occupant, and may also be readily moved from place to place. On reversing the crank, the rockers assume their former curved position for the usual purpose.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A cradle or crib, provided with sectional pivoted rockers to adapt the cradle to be converted into a stationary crib, or vice versa, by simply elevating or depressing said rockers, as herein shown and described.
2. The combinatioinwith the cradle A having recessed head and foot boards, of the slides C pivoted to the adjacent ends of the rockers B B, as shown and described, whereby said slides are adapted to be adjusted vertically by means of a suitable device attached to the cradle.
3. In combination wththe pivoted rockers B and adjustable slides O, the shaft b, eccentric f, connecting-rod g, and handle or crank e, as and for the purpose specified.
WARD B. CARPENTER.
