GAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, i922.
Application filed February 12, 1921. Serial No. 444,559.
To all wlw/m t may concern.'
Be it lrnown that we, CLINTON M. PHILO and FLOYD O. Bownns, citizens of the United States, residing at Lansing, in the county of lngham and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to games of the parlor type and an object of the invention is to provide a game board constructed so that the playing of the game therewith will simulate a motor trip, and also to provide a game wherein various hazards, such as detours, filling stations, and the like, are provided as well as advantages or desirable points which permit the player to advance at a relatively rapid rate or a predetermined distance over the distance granted him by the spinning of an arrow in connection with a suitable indicator.
Another object of the invention is to provide a game of this nature which may be manufactured to sell at a relatively low cost and one wherein a number of persons may play the game, zest being added to to inal result by the endeavor of one player to have more success and a quicker trip than another.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. l is a plan view of the improved board.
Fig. 2 is a detail cross section through the board taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a plan of the indicator used in connection with the board.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the improved game comprises a board 1 which is formed of the usual three ply material to prevent warping and the board is provided with a plurality of recesses 2 drilled thereinto from its upper face which recesses are adapted to receive pins 3, each player of the game having an individual pin. These pins may be individually distinguished by different coloring or in any suitable manner.
The recesses 2 are formed in a sinuous path, on the board as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawing and this sinuous path has a plurality of branches extending therefrom at spaced points asindicated at t which branches represent cdetours trips to garages filling stations or other hazards encountered on a motor trip which tend to delay the progress of the motor vehicle. Certain of the recesses 2 are distinguished from others by circles inscribed there about, which circles are of different colors, certain of them, such as terminals of the trip, indi-` cated by the word Home and Resort being of uniform color while, such as those which refer to detours and are labeled Go to detour. are of a different color, all the circles which require the player to go to Detour being of a uniform color. Cer tain of theV circles are inscribed Go to garage while a single circle is inscribed with the legend Garage and to facilitate the understanding of the playing of the game the circle indicated by the inscription Garage is of the same color as those bearing the inscription Goto garage. The garage circle represents a hazard in playing the game. The foregoing is true of other hazards in the game such as the filling sta tions, and is also true of the advances in playing the game, some of the lcircles being inscribed Go to valley while a single circle is inscribed Valley as shown by reference to Fig. l of the drawing. The valley circle is suitably distanced in advance of the circles inscribed Go to valley in the trip so that in playing the game if the number indih cated on the indicator structure l() by the pointer l1, when spun by a player, indi" cates that a player moves his pin to the circle bearing the inscription Go to valley the player advances to the circle inscribed Valley Two or more persons may play the game, each person having one of the pins 3- as his represent-ative in the game. When a player spins the arrow on the indicator 11 which is supported intermediate its ends as indicated at l2 and which has numbers on the indicator structure, the indicator points to such number of points that the first player is to move his pin, starting from home. rl`hat is, if the arrow points at the number 6 the lirst player moves his in 3 six holes or recesses from the home station. The remaining players, in turn, each spin the arrow and move their respective pins the number of points from home indicated on the dial at the point where the arrow stops. Each of the players, consequently spins the arrow advancing his respective pin the number of recesses indicated by the arrow and the first person to reach the end of the trip lio or the recess bearing the inscription Resort Wins the game.
Whenever the players pin stops in one of the recesses 2 bearing the inscription Go to-a certain point the pin is advanced to the recess indicated thereby. That is', if the players pin stops in the recess inscribed Go to detour he must move the pin to the circle inscribed Detour and advance from said recess by successive spins of the arrow. If the arrow stops on a line on the dialithe player spins again.
It is7 of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations, and therefore We do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described our invention what we claim is:
l: In a gaine a board provided with a plurality of recesses drilled thereinto from one face of the board, said recesses spaced one from another and arranged in a sinuous path and in branch paths branching o from said sinuous path, certain of said recesses being designated from others by circles of different color formed on the board about the recesses, analogous recesses, in playing the game, being indicated by circles of the saine color, the circles at the ends of said branch paths being designated by suitable indicia and circles corresponding to indicia and circles by which certain other of the recesses in the board are designated.
2l In a game, a board provided` With a plurality of recesses drilled thereinto from one face of the board, said recesses spaced one from another and arranged in a sinuous pathl and in branch paths branching olf from said sinuous path, certain or' said recesses being designated from others by circles of different color formed on the board about the recesses7 analogous recesses, in playing the game, being indicated by circles of the same color, the circles at the ends of said branch paths being designated by suitable indicia and circles corresponding to indicia and circles by which certain other of the recesses y in the board are designated, pins for insertion in said recesses and an indicator for designating the number of recesses Which the pin is to advance upon each play in the gaine.
InV testimony WhereoiI We aiiix our signatures.
