Be itA known that l, Minn Sirena, citizen of Hungary, residincr at Niles, in the county of Trumbull and Sttate of Chio, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable l/Vashstands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an adjustable stand adapted for use in supporting articles or objects such as washtubs or basins or the the like.
The invention has for an object to provide novel arrangement of parts, for varying both the height of the stand and the eective surface area thereof.
F or further comprehension of the invention, and ofthe objects and advantages there of, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the vario-us novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a plan view of `an adjustable stand constructed according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. '3 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary horizontal section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
As here shown my improved adjustable stand comprises a rectangular frame consisting of legs united and braced by the side boards 11 and preferably mounted on castors 12. Extending rigidily between the side boards, is the hollow frame element 13 which serves as a guide for the member upon which the top or table of the stand is supported.
This member comprises a channeled standard 15 having rack teeth 16 formed on one side thereof. These rack teeth 16 are engage-d by a gear 17 fixed on a shaft 18 supported in the frame element 13 and having a crank handle 19 on one end for rotation. A second series of rack teeth 2O are formed in the standard .15 and are spaced from the teeth 16 by a vertical groove 21 in the standard.
As will be apparent the standard 15 may be raised and lowered by rotation shaft 18.
The table element of the stand is supported on a tubular extension of the standard 15 and comprises a central frame bar 26 xed on said tubular extension and having Specification of Letters Patent.

These lazy tong elements comprise the crossed bars 27 pivotally attached between their ends to one another as at 28 and having eyes 29 on their ends taking freely over the telescopic side rails consisting of rods 30 and tubes 31. These telescopic( rails have end rails 32 mounted on the opposed ends thereof.
The end rails 32 have T-grooves formed therein to receive complementary heads 34 on the ends of the telescopic rails 80, 31. It will be understood, of course, that the outer and inner ones of the lazy tong bars 27 are attached to the side rails and do not slide along the latter. The tubular rail sections 30 and 31 are ixedat their inner ends to apertured guide heads 29 which engage slidably in T-grooves 33 extending longitudinally of the bar 26. The side rails 30, 31 are thus permitted to move toward or away from one another upon expansion or contraction of the lazy tongs.
rlhe adjustable table as thus constructed is adapted for adjusting operation by means of a pair of rods 38 connected to certain of the lazy tong bars 27 as at 39 and extending ldownwardly and inwardly to pivotally connect at their ylower ends to the top of an interior post 40 slidably guidedwithin the channeled standard 15. This post 40 has rack teeth 41 formed on one side thereof and adaptedfto vbe engagedby a gear 42 on the shaft 18 before mentioned. The gear 42 is normally loose on shaft 18 and may be brought into engagement therewith by a sliding movement of the shaft, which sliding movement may be of just sufficient length to move gear 17 into registry with groove 21 and so release this gear from the standard 15, or it may be carried farther to cause gear 17 to engage the rack teeth 20. As here shown shaft 18 is provided with a key-boss 45 on one side thereof adapted to engage in a complementary key-way 46 in the bore of gear 42. This boss 45 carries a spring pressed ball 47 adapted to engage in either of a pair of notches 48 in the lrey-way 46 to localize the shaft 18.
To lock the standard 15 in any adjusted position I provide the same with a series of vertically spaced sockets 50 adapted to be engaged by a screw 51 carried on the frame element 13. To lock the ost 40 I provide a screw 52 extending free y through a vertical slot 53 in the 'frame element 13 and threaded throughthe standard 15, against the post.
