JOHN HOLTZ, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO EDWIN HIGGINS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MATCH-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,793, dated August 12, 1873; applicatipn filed June 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HOLTZ, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Match- Safes, of which the following is a specification and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the let ters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to a match-safe combined with a drawer or receptacle in which the stubs or waste ends of the matches may be deposited after the matches have been ignited and used.
The drawing represents a perspective view of my improved match-safe, the drawer being partly open.
I do not, however, confine myself strictly to the construction or shape of the m atch-safe as herein shown.
As illustrated, the safe consists of two pockets, A, resting upon a base, B, the plate forming the back of the pockets being extended upward as a means for suspending the device from a nail driven into the wall. The base is in itself a box open at the ends, and contains the drawer O. The front of the base has a slot, 0, cut lengthwise thereof, through which,
when the drawer is closed, the stubs or waste ends of the matches can be passed therein. The upper edge of the front side of the drawer is cut away opposite the slot. A plate, 0, extending from the lower side of the slot outwardly at an angle from the front plate of the bass B, serves to facilitate the insertion of the stu s.
Match boxes or safes are a household neces sity, and a place of deposit for the stubs or waste ends of the matches is required by considerations of safety, convenience, and neatness.
I claim as my invention- 1. In combination with the slotted base of the match-safe, the slotted sliding drawer G, into which the stubs may be placed without opening the said drawer, as set forth.
2. The plate a, in combination with the entrance-slot of the base of the match-safe and the inclosed slotted drawer, as shown.
