AUTOMOBILE ALARM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Ma 30, 1922.
Application filed August 6, 1921. Serial No. 490,409.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, STEELE L. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Home and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automobile Alarms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is an automobile horn, and the object is to provide a simple and eificient alarm .for attachment to any one of the spark plug sockets of the internal combustion engine used upon the automobile, same to be operated by a Wire extended to the dash of the car.
The figure is a longitudinal, vertical sectional view through the device as attached to the engine.
The invention consists in mounting in a spark plug socket 1 plug 3 having a branch pipe 4 leading into one side, While the open end 5 is screw threaded interiorly to receive the spark plug 6. From the branch 4 is extended tubular joints or connections such as represented at 7, 8, 9, leading to a cup or Well 10. A rotary valve 11, is interposed in the joint 7 and is controlled by a Wire 12 extended from the valve crank 13 to the dash. The valve 11 is normally held in closed position by a spring 1 1. A vibrating membran 15 is mounted in the joint 9. The Well 10 is provided With and 17 and Water is poured into the cup through the port 18.
of the engine 2, a pipe lVhen the Wire is pulled the valve 11 is opened, admitting gases from the engine cylinder through the membrane 16, thus sounding the alarm. The Water in the Well 10 imparts a Warbling or siren efi'ect to the alarm. c
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, notdeparting invention as defined I claim: a In combination with a spark plug socket from the spirit of my in the appended claim.
bustion type; an alarm for the automobile,
an automobile engine of the internal comdevice and vibrating the v same comprising a pipe plug for seating in;
the socket, the outer end thereof being adapted to receive a spark plug in ordinary manner, and the said pipe plug having a branch pipe extended from one side; pipe joints extended from the branch pipe; a water Well at the end ofthe connected joints for imparting a siren effect to the alarm,'said \vell having drain cocks and a Water port for filling and emptying the Well; a rotary valve set in the pipe line and normally held closed; means extended to the dash for-opening said valve; and a vibrating membrane set in the pipe line. 7
