Application led'July 20, 1918. Serial No. 245,929.
To all whom. 15 may concern Be it known that I, LaonI BLOCH, aciti zen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county -of New York and State of New York, have invented lnew and useful Improvements lin Bath Fittings, afof which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bath fittings generally.
One of the vention resides in the construction and novel arrangement'of instrumentalities which will permit of a concealing of practically all of f the ordinary unsightly metallic partsffof thev fitting, while combining as a unitary'structure an overflow' connectionand the hot and cold water inlet cocks,` whereby the operation of applying the fitting to a bath tub or the like will be greatly simplified and theentire structure, when appliedimade to assume a neat, attractive and sanitary arrangement within the tub. f
l A still further object of the invention re-v sldes in the provision of a bath fitting whichv will consist of a combination of water inlet cocks and aconnected waste and over-flow,
associating the waste and over-flow with mechanism which will permit of an automatic discharge of the water from .the tub after the water has reached'adetermined level in the tub andthe incorporation with said mechanism of means for readily eecting a discharge of the waste water from the tub when desired.
With the above andother objects in view which will appear as the nature ofthe invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangements of parts which will hereinafter be fully described and particularly pointed out vin the claims.
In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated, a single and preferred form of the invention, '1t being, however, understood that no limitations are necessarily madeto the precise structural details therein eX- hibited, but that changes, alterations and modiiicationswithin the-scope of the claims ma be resorted to when desired.
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved itting, parts being broken away and parts principal features of the in-"f "shown in section iii `order to clearly illustrate the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical section therethrough with parts in full lines.
, Figure 3 is a perspective view ofthe combined valve'and over-flow pipe.
IFigure 4vis' a view similar to Figure 2 showmg'the controlling mechanismv for the :over-flow pipe.
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5-5 ofV Fi rc1. f
' he invention 1s primarily in the nature of a iitting for use in connectionwith bath -lcelain elements which are arranged'to give to the interior of the tub, a neat,-attractive and sanitary formation. n
ln carrying the, invention into practice, use is made of a T connection lOto which igure Gris la'. section on the line .6.6 ot
hot and Acold Water valves 11 and 12 are respectively connected. These valves are provided with threaded attaching nipples 12 tub 14C. Outside of the tub, the valves. are provided with collars 15, while `inside ot the tub, the collars are connected with clamping nuts 16 which are arranged to co-act with the collars 15 to hold the valves in applied positions. Each valve is provided with a Water inlet branch 17 and a water discharge branch 18, the connection 17 being arranged in communication with water supply pipes 19, as shown in Figure 1. The connections 18 are operatively associated with the T coupling 10. Each of these valve structures is provided with a seat 20 and a valve stem 21. I do not desire to lay any. particular stress upon the design of valves'to be employed in that .this forms no essential feature of the invention, except for a certain novel combination of partsv as will be better eX- plained hereinafter. 1lhe stems are pro vided with threaded adjusting portions 2 2 structed of porcelain or other suitable noncorrosive and non-metallic material. The nuts 16 are closed and entirely concealed by ornamental escutcheons 25 which are also preferably constructed of porcelain or other suitable non-corrosive material'. These escutcheons are confined in position against.
the tub by means of retaining devices 26 which are threadedly connected with extensions 27 on the nuts 16. In this manner it is seen that only very minor metallic parts are exposed within the tub and the arrangement therefore becomes attractive and highly sanitary. On the outside of the tub, the branch 28 of the T connection 10 is operatively associated with a globular body 29, the same having a branch 30 from which the waste pipe 31 extends. The waste pipe is provided with a T coupling 32 whose branch 33 is adapted to be connected with the waste opening under the tub. The connection 29 is provided with a branch 34 havingr a flange 35 which bears againstthe outside wall of the tub and as illustrated in Figure 2, said flange is'arranged to combine with an overflow plate 36, the latter being arranged on' the inside of the tub and provided with overflow openings 37. The plate 36 is provided with an internally threaded central boss 38 which is aligned with a threaded terminal 39 of the water inlet branch 40 of the connection 29. The boss 38 and said terminal 39 of the water inlet branch or upper elbow 40 receive the threaded end 41 of a discharge nozzle 42 which is arranged to open inside of the tub toward the bottom thereof. The branch 40 of' the connection 29 has its walls spaced'from the outside walls of said branch 34 as shown in Figure 2 so that water passing through the passages 37 will be free to enter the waste pipe 31 by way of the branch 30 and adjacent passage of the body 29 which constitutes with said branch a lower elbow, integral with said upper elbow.
Located in the waste pipe 31 is a combined valve and over-'How pipe 43 whose walls are spaced from said waste pipe as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 4. Said combined valve and over-flow pipe is provided with an annular valve face 44 at its lower end which co-acts with a valve seat 45 in the T coupling 32. The seat is arranged below the branch 33 of said connection 32. After the water reaches a determined level in the tub 14 it will be free to pass from the drain pipe by way of said combined pipe and valve 43. At the upper end the' combinedpipe and valve 43 is provided with a bail 46 which is operatively connected with one end of an actuating lever 47 This lever has pivotal connection at 48 with the plate 36 and beyond the plate the lever is provided with a hand engaging terminal 49 which is arranged 'to be tilted in order that the lever can be operatively rocked and the combined pipe and valve 32 raised to the position shown in Figure 4. The hand receiving terminal 49 of the rocking lever is provided with an eccentrically mounted disk 50 which may be turned to eo-act with the nozzle 42 whereby to hold 'the combined pipe and valve 43 in an elevated position as shown in Figure 4. This is desirable when draining the tub as will be understood.
What is claimed as new is 1. A bath fitting comprising a substantially globular member having a valved intake passage, the said member being open at one side, the intake passage having threaded walls, the said member having an overflow passage surrounding the walls of said inlet passage, an annular flange at the open side of said member, the member havingan integral branch adapted for connection with a standard waste pipe, an over-flow plate arranged in horizontal alignment with the open side of the member, and a threaded discharge nozzle operatively connected with the threaded walls of said intake passage and also operatively connected with said overflow plate, whereby an adjustment of the nozzle to effect its attachment to the structure will draw the flanged open side of the member and the inner face of the overflow. plate respectively against the opposite sides of the wall of a tub or like fixture.
2. A bath fitting comprising a substantially globular member having a water intake passage, the said member being openL at one side, the intake passage having threaded walls, the said member having an overflow passage surrounding 'the walls of said inlet passage, an annular flange at the open side of the member, the member having an integral branch adapted for connection with a standard waste pipe, an overflow plate arranged in horizontal alignment with the open side of the member, and a threaded discharge nozzle operatively con- .nected with the threaded walls of said intake passage and also operatively connected with saidV overflow plate, whereby an adjustment of the nozzle to effectl its attachment to the structure will draw the flanged open side of the member and the inner face of the overflow plate respectively against the opposite sides of the wall of a tub or like fixture.
3. A bath fitting comprising a substantially globular member having a water intake passage and a surrounding overflow passage, said member open at one side, the member having an integral branch adapted for connection with a standard waste pipe, said branch opening directly to the overiiow passage, an overflow plate arranged in horizontal alignment with the open side of the member, and a discharge nozzle respectively associated with the member and said plate and adjustable in line with the horizontal axis of the overflow passage whereby to cause said member and the plate to be drawn into clamping engagement with the opposite faces of the Wall of a tub or similar xture and an operative application of said nozzle 10 to the tub, all of said parts being freely separable.
In testimony whereof atx my signature.
