The object of the present invention is to-reduce to a minimum the cost of production and of assembly of a double mixing valve or tap installed upon sanitary appliances.
A further object of the invention is to conceal from view the greatest possible number of metallic parts of the tap arrangement and to employ rough machined parts of low cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide '10 a sanitary appliance which is easy to use and maintain and the size of which is reduced to a minimum.
A sanitary appliance permitting the above objects to be attained possesses the characteristic features which app-ear from the following description and from the claims appendant to this description.
Sanitary appliances according to the invention are illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a partial plan View of the sanitary appliance.
Figure 2 is a section taken along the broken line 2-2--2-2 in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section taken along the line 3-3 in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a part section taken along the line 4-4 in Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a similar section to that shown in Figure 4 but illustrating another position of the parts.
Figure 6 is a section taken along the line 6-6 in Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a vertical partial section taken along the axis of the delivery nozzle of a modification.
Figure 8 is a part section taken along the line 8-8 in Figure 7.
The sanitary appliance illustrated in Figures 1 to 6 comprises a basin having an upper surface upon which are situated on the one hand a delivery nozzle 3 and on the other hand the Valves or taps l and 2 for the supply of hot and cold water.
The basin also comprises an overflow duct 4 having an inlet orifice 4 which duct opens freely into the upper edge of the basin.
The bottom of the basin comprises a waste duct closed by a valve 5.
According to the present invention, the delivery nozzle 3 mounted upon the upper orifice 5 of the overflow duct 4 comprises a hollow extension 1 through which water is admitted and which penetrates into the said duct 4. The lower part of this extension 7 receives a pipe connection 8 passing through the wall 4 of the overflow duct 4, which pipe connection 8 is connected to the primary taps l2.
The pipe connection 3 (Figure 3) is gripped upon the rear wall 4 of the overflow duct 4 by means of a nut 8 and a seating ring 8 The supply of water to the delivery nozzle 3 through the extension 7 situated in the overflow duct reduces to a minimum the size of the visible portion of the tap arrangement.
Each of the primary taps I, 2 comprises a body 3 9 the lower part of which forms a seating M W for the valve H H provided with a controlling rod I2 I2 The central part I3 l 3 of each tap body 9 9 is connected to the pipe connection 8 of the nozzle 3 by means of piping M M forming a header.
The arrangement 9 9 l3 l3 l 4 I4 is pivotally mounted at its centre about the axis 33 of the pipe connection 8 (Figure 1). In this way it is easy to move this double tap l--2 in a vertical plane in the direction f or f (Figure 2) with a view to adjusting its position before fixing it. It is then fixed solely by tightening two nuts 26 26 which bear for example upon the upper surface 28 of the sanitary appliance (Figure 2).
The manufacture and mounting of the assembly is thus simplified.
The arrangement formed by the nozzle 3 having an extension 1, the pipe connection 8 and the piping M M constitutes the hot and cold water mixer proper.
Further, the delivery nozzle 3 comprises a vertical socket l5 through which passes the vertical rod l6 controlling the valve 5. In this Way this socket l5 forms a guide for this rod I6 which can then turn freely in the socket l5.
This arrangement which permits the waste controlling device to be mounted upon the delivery nozzle 3, also assists in simplifying the mounting and in reducing the size.
The vertical rod I6 is provided at its upper part with an operating handle l'l, while its lower part is fitted with a cam 18.
The cam l8 engages with a cranked lever l9 mounted so as to oscillate about a pin 20 and the end of which situated opposite the cam l8 comprises a hook 2|. This hook 21 is connected to the valve 5 by means of a cranked rod or tube 22 (Figure 3).
This device operates in the following manner:
the handle I? is given a rotary movement in the direction I (Figures 1 to 4 and 5). The cam l8 which is carried along in this movement causes the lever iii to swing in the direction f (Figure 6) and this has the effect of raising the hook 2| and the cranked tube 22 in the direction f The chief advantage of the device described. above is that it occupies little space and is simple in construction.
Numerous modifications may be made in the device described above, for example, in the modification illustrated in Figures 7 and 8 and seating ring 8 bearing upon the wall 4 of the overflow duct 4 of the sanitary appliance is formed by a washer which is eccentric relative to the orifice 8 through which the pipe connection 8 passes. In this way the eccentric washer 8 engages by rotation around the pipe connection 8 with the body of the sanitary appliance, as will be seen clearly in Figures 7 and 8.
The pipe connection 8 is thus caused to abut upon the sanitary appliance by means of the washer 8 and this prevents any upward movement of the arrangement formed by the pipe connection 8, the double tap l and the delivery nozzle 3.
In this way a rigid mounting of the delivery nozzle 3 upon the sanitary appliance is ensured.
No play can therefore arise between the delivery nozzle 3 and the sanitary appliance, which play would encourage the accumulation of refuse and would leave the assembly free to move laterally.
Further, the eccentric washer 8 does not give rise to any difliculty when fitting. In fact this washer occupies the position represented in broken lines in Figure 5, and then offers no resistance to the introduction of the pipe connection 8 into the orifice 8 When this pipe connection 8 has been inserted in the orifice 8 and then assembled with the extension l of the delivery nozzle 3, the tightening of the nut 8 causes the eccentric washer 8 to rotate in the direction I This washer is thus brought automatically into the position in which it acts as a stop.
Having now described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, bath, etc., a basin body, a Waste duct and an overflow duct, this overflow duct having an aperture leading into the basin, an orifice formed in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and an orifice leading on to the upper surface of the basin, a delivery nozzle resting upon the upper surface of the basin and comprising a hollow extension engaged in the upper orifice of the overflow duct, this hollow extension bearing upon the inner surface of the said duct, a cold water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance, a hot water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance, a header connected to the said taps, a pipe connection passing through the orifice in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and connecting the header to the hollow extension of the delivery nozzle, aclamping member engaged upon the pipe connection and bearing upon the outer surface of the overflow duct.
2. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, bath, etc., a basin body, a waste duct and an overflow duct this overflow duct having an aperture leading into the basin, an orifice formed in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and an orifice leading on to the upper surface of the basin, a delivery nozzle resting upon the upper surface of the basin and comprising a hollow extension engaged in the upper orifice of the overflow duct, a cold water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance, a hot water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance, a header connected to the said taps, a pipe connection passing through the orifice in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and connecting the header to the hollow extension of the delivery nozzle, an eccentric locking washer engaged upon the pipe connection and engaging by rotation with the body of the sanitary appliance and pressing the delivery nozzle against the upper surface of the basin, a clamping member engaged upon the pipe connection and holding the eccentric washer in its locking position.
3. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, bath, etc., a basin body, a wasteduct and an overflow duct, this overflow duct having an aperture leading into the basin, an orifice formed in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and an orifice leading on to the upper surface of the basin, a delivery nozzle resting upon the upper surface of the basin and comprising a hollow extension engaged in the upper orifice of the overflow duct, a cold water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance, a hot water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance, a header connected to the said taps, a pipe connection passing through the orifice in the outer Wall of the body of the sanitary appliance, this pipe connection being secured at its inner end to the extension of the delivery nozzle and at its outer end to the central part of the header and forming a pivotal axis for the said header.
4. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, bath, etc., a basin body, a waste duct and an over-flow duct, this overflow duct having an aperture leading into the basin, an orifice formed in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and an orifice leading on to the upper plane of the basin, a delivery nozzle resting upon the upper plane of the basin and comprising a hollow extension engaged in the upper orifice of the overflow duct, a cold Water tap having a body passing through the upper plane of the basin, a nut screwed upon the body of the cold water tap and resting upon the upper plane of the basin, a hot water tap having a body passing through the upper plane of the basin, a nut screwed upon the body of the hot water tap and resting upon the upper plane of the basin, a header connected to the said taps, a pipe connection passing through the orifice in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and connecting the header to the hollow extension of the delivery nozzle.
5. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, bath etc., a basin body, a Waste duct and an overflow duct, this overflow duct having an aperture leading into the basin, an orifice formed in the outer wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and an orifice leading on to the upper surface of the basin, a valve closing the waste duct and having an actuating stem situated in the overflow duct, a delivery nozzle resting upon the upper surface of the basin and comprising a hollow extension engaged in the upper orifice of the overflow duct, a rotatable rod turning in the delivery nozzle, a cam carried by this rotatable rod, a lever pivoted upon the delivery nozzle and engaging with the cam, a connecting rod situated within the overflow duct, pivoted upon the pivoted lever and engaging with the stem of the valve, a cold water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance, a hot water tap mounted upon the body of the sanitary appliance,
a header connected upon the preceding taps, a pipe connection passing through the orifice in the outer Wall of the body of the sanitary appliance and connecting the header to the hollow extension of the delivery nozzle.
