LEON B. YEISER, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, AND ARTHUR I. FISCHER, OF CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OHIO, ASSIGNORS TO GLAUBER BRASS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF
CLEVELAND, OHIO, A FIRM.
WASHBASiN-FIXTURE.
i Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 16, 1920.
Application filed February 14, 1917. Serial No. 148,688.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, LEON B. Yuisu i, of Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, and ARTHUR I. Frsonrai, of Cleveland Heights, county of C uyahoga, and State of Ohio, both citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vashbasin-Fixturcs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wash basin and bath fittings. and comprises an organization of parts which include cold and hot water supply connections and a single centrally-disposed delivery spout atfixed to a basin or bath tub having a discharge or eXha-ust pipe and a stopper or closure in the bottom thereof which is hand controlled by rod and lever means located at the rear and middle of the basin and with all said parts so constructed and arranged that they are variously adaptable to basins and receptacles of diflerent widths and sizes and other difierences here and there which require adaptability in the fittings to install the same therewith, all substantially as here inafter fully described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a basin equipped with the said fixtures. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation front to rear through the middle thereof. 7
The invention comprises separate supply pipes 2 through which hotand cold water is separately supplied to two tubes 4 which are alike in constructionand fixed at their top in the basin B through vertical holes therein, and tubes 4 have lateral delivery pipes 6 near their bottom which communicate with the branched delivery tube 7 and the single delivery spout S open thereto at its upper end.
Nuts a engage each tube 4 on opposite sides of the basin B and fix said tubes on said basin, while corresponding nuts n secure the central tube member '7 in the same manner to the basin. Each tube 4 has a; valve seat in its bottom and a valve v seats thereon from above to govern the inflow or supply of Water, and each valve has an iiiternally-threade d extension 7) at its upper end of hexagonal cross section operating in slidable engagement with the tube body un der the action of a screw stem 5 projecting above the basin and provided with a handle g to rotate the same. A water tight closure at the top of each tube 4 is provided by means of a collar 0 on each stem and a packing cup 8 resting on said collar and screwed into the upper end of the tube. The cup contains packing and a follower nut 9 compresses the packing, while a cap or sleeve nut 10 enters the said follower nut 9 and has an annular flange engaged about the narrowed top of a rounded hollow cap and sleeve 12 resting on the basin and covering all the said parts except the handle.
The communicating pipes 6 are of sub-' stantially elbow shape and have sleeved or telescopic connection at both ends so that the positions of the tubes 4 and 7 associated therewith may be accommodated to possible different widths of basins or spaces between the holes therein and to other possible con ditions or positions in setti-ng up or utilizing the parts involved. Slip nuts and packing secure the ends of the pipes 6 in fluidtight union with the threaded extension of each tube 4 and the curved branches of delivery tube 7, and a wide range of adjustment is obtained by theiruse in connection with the several adjustments obtainable by nuts n and n, all of which is material to successful and practical adaptation of the fittings and fixtures to different and varying working conditions in diflerent basins and different relative locations of pipes and the like in a given installation.
In this way, the central bottom branched delivery tube 7 may have separate cold and hot water supply through separate pipes 6,
and I also provide this tube with a sleeve 14 space 19 in the head 20 of spout S, whence the fluid is discharged through said spout. The said head is made water tight to the exterior by an inner annular flange 21 thereon and a gasket 22 seating within the recessed top of nut n, and the top of the head is closed by a nut 23 and a ring gasket-2 1 when said ,nut is screwed onto the threaded eX- tremity 25 of the tube 7 The nut 23 has a central opening through which rod 15 passes to the upper side of the basin.
What we claim is: -1. In a basin fitting as described, a water supply member having a valve seat therein,
mg into a coupling 27 engaged on a tubular facilitating adjustments to any a valve slidably mounted over said seat, a valve stem extending through the top of said member having a collar, a cup-shaped packing nut and packing therein seated on said collar and screwed into the top of said member, a follower nut screwed into said packing nut, an inclosing sleeve for said parts, and a tubular nut about said stem engaging the top of said sleeve and said follower nut.
2. A basin fitting, comprising a branched delivery tube having an exte'riorly-threaded body and a reduced threaded upper extremity, a spout member and nuts sleeved upon said body, a cap nut engaging said threaded extremity and secpring said member to said delivery tube, and packing between the joints of said parts.
3. A basin fitting, comprising a delivery tube having separate supply branches at its bottom and a threaded extension and side openings at its top, a clamping annulus for 'said tube having a packing seat in its upper face and packing in said seat, a spout member having a hollow body sleeved upon said tube and seated upon said packing, and
a nut in the upper end of said spout body in I screw engagement with said threaded extens1on.
1. A basin fitting, comprising a water delivery tubehaving separate supply branches and a central opening lengthwise there-' through and an annular water mixing chamber therein open tosaid branches, a pair of nuts in screw engagement with said tube adapted to. secure the tube to a basin, asep arate spout member detachably sleeved upon said delivery tube and having a recessed base inclosing one of said nuts, and a fastening nut for said spout member having a central passage adapted to register with the central opening in said delivery tube.
In testimony whereof we affix our signas tures.
LEON B. YEISER. ARTHUR I. FISCHER.
