(01. 137-111) The main object of our invention is to provide an improved unitary tub and shower valve fixture which is simple in construction and highly effective and emcient in operation.
Objects relating to details and economies of our invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in front elevation of our improved fixture.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation having parts broken away and shown in vertical section on line 2-2 of Figs. 3, 4 and 6.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary transverse section taken on line 33 of Figs. 2, 4 and 6.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken on line 4-4 of Figs. 2 and 3.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2, illustrating a modification of the tub-shower valve, and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail section taken on a line corresponding to line 66 of Figs. 2 and 3,
illustrating the tub-shower valve.
Referring to the drawings, numeral 1 indicates an escutcheon plate in which is mounted a spout or bib 2. The spout 2 is connected by a short horizontal pipe 3 to the outlet 4 of the body member 5. The body member 5 is provided with hot and cold water inlets 6 and 7 having forwardly facing valve seats 8 and 9, respectively. The valve seats 8 and 9 have valves 10 and 11 coacting therewith, which are controlled by stems 12 and 13 terminating in handles 14 and 15. Each of the stems 12 and 13 extends through a closure 16, packing ring 17, and packing gland 18. The stems are provided with external threads 19 which engage internal threads 20 within the closure 16,
0 the latter beingsecured by threads to the body member 4, as illustrated.
The inlet valves are connected by the passages 21 to the discharge valve seat 22 having shower outlet 23, in the embodiment illustrated, and tub outlet or port 24 disposed oppositely thereto.
The cylindrical discharge valve 25 is hollow and opens to the inlet passages 21, the valve 25 having a discharge port 26 which may be brought into register with either discharge port. The stem 5 28 of this discharge valve is provided with a handle 2'7.
The rear end of the valve 25 is provided with a semi-circular notch or recess 29 providing stops 30 which coact with the stop pin 31 to limit the rotational movement of the valve 25 to approximately 180, or a half turn. This handle 27 carries suitable legends as Tub" on one side and "Shower on the opposite side. The valve 25 is retained within the body member by the threaded closure.
The valve stem is provided with a packing ring 33 and packing gland 34. The stem 28 extends parallel to the hot and cold water valve stems 12 and 13 which are disposed through the escutcheon or finishing plate.
Referring tom. 5, there is illustrated a valve casting 5' having ashower outlet 23 and a tub outlet 34' which communicate with the common or mixing passage 21' through removable valve seats 35 and; 36, respectively. Coacting with the valve seats 35 and 36 is a valve 25' carried on the inner end of stem 28' which is provided with threads 37 which register with threads 38 provided therefor within the bushing 33 which is carried by the body member 5'. The pitch of the threads 37 and 38 is preferably such that the valve 25' may be moved to the limits of its travel by moving the handle 27' through an arc of approximately 180.
In operation, the tub handle valve is first adso justed to the desired position and then the hot and cold water handles 14 and 15 are adjusted until the water discharged from the shower or tub spout meets the desired temperature.
Our tub and shower valve fixture combines in one unit the hot and cold water supply for both tub and shower. The upper handle is marked Tub on one side and Shower on the other and requires only one-half turn to divert the water and comes to a positive stop in either .position. The device is not only simple in construction but is ornamental and highly efficient and effective in operation.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may 'be made in the details of con- 5 struction and design of the above specifically described embodiments of our invention without departing from. the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A valve fixture comprising a body member having an upper horizontally arranged cylindri- 1 cal diverter valve chamber opening to the front and having a transverse vertical rear wall, a vertical central passage depending from the front of said chamber and terminating in a horizontal y arranged cylindrical tub outlet opening 110 central passage, and a. web connecting the inner front wall edges of the hot and cold water pessages to the outer rear wall edges of the central passage and tub outlet.
