ATTORNEY CHARLES P. WILLIAMS, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
rnooascnnnnme- BOARD.
Application filed January 8, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHAnLns P. WIL- LIAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented. a new and useful Improvement in Floor- Scrubbing Boards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in portable apparatus for use in scrubbing floors. The object of my invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive low-lying device adapted to conveniently carry a pail, and soap, brushes, etc., and having a soft top surface so that the worker can kneel on the board with comfort, push it readily along the floor, and have his tools and water easily accessible for use and thus accomplish more work in an easier way than by ordinary methods. The apparatus is intended also to be low so that it can be tucked underneath a table, bench, or the like, to get it out of the Way, and has atone corner a pail holder which is movable and preferably rotatable with reference to the board so that the pail carrying the water can be moved from right to left and will always be convenient for use. Nloreover, it is intended to hold the pail so that it is not likely to tip over. The general object of my invention is to produce a simple apparatus of the kind specified which will make work easier for the operator, and as stated will enable him to accomplish more and better work with a given amount of effort.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the apparatus embodying my invention, and
Figure is a side elevation thereof.
The body portion of the apparatus comprises a flat board 10 of necessary strength and thickness, which can be a single board or other form of low-lying platform, and it has a padded surface 11 to make it com fortable to the user. It is mounted on rollers 12 which can be ordinary casters or any approved form of truck, and at one corner, preferably one of the forward corners, and

this for most people will be the left hand corner, is a pail-holder 13 of generally circular shape, which has flanges 1-1- spaced apart on the upper side to enable the pail to be easily held in place. It is better to have several flanges than one because the pail holder then drains readily in case any water is slopped over upon it. While the pail holder can be fastened rigidly to the platform or board 10, it is better to have it applied so that it can be turned from right to left or left to right, and while I have shown a simple means of attaching it in this manner, it can be applied in other ways which will permit of this movement without affecting the invention. In fact the pail holder may be rigid and still illustrate my idea of having the pail holder convenient and where it can be readily reached by the operator. As shown the pail holder is pivotally attached by a bolt 15 which extends through the member 13 and into the board 10. It is supported by a caster l7 and can turn from right to left or left to right as described.
0n the sides of the platform are boxes 18 and 19 which can be made in any con- -venient way to hold soap, brushes, or other accessories, and these holders can be applied on opposite sides or at the ends, or both, as desired. I have shown them on the two sides which is the preferred place for them as this is most convenient.
In use the operator places a pail of water on the pail holder 13, and kneels upon the platform 10, and pushes the platform along as he scrubs the floor in front of it or at the sides, and it will be seen that this enables the work to be very easily done, keeps the clothing clean, and generally facilitates the scrubbing operation.
Various modifications will naturally suggest themselves, but the invention is so sim ple that it will be readily seen that it embodies essentially a low-lying portable platform adapted to. carry conveniently and securely the pail of suds and the necessary tools.
It will be noticed that the portable platform is a single platform lying close to the floor, that the pail. carrier 13 is arranged at one corner of the platform so that it will not interfere with scrubbing in front and at the sides thereof, and that the boxes 18 and 19 also lie below the top plane of the platform and that they will not interfere with scrubbing operations.
I claim As an improved article of manufacture, a floor scrubbing device eomyn'ising a single low-lying platform mounted on trucks hav- 10 ing a soap box on the side below the top tom, flanged sides, and a roller on the under 15 side thereof.
