bination of parts, hereinafter described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a rectangular horizontal platform orhasc which is preferably supported on casters 2. The base 1 includes a pair of upstandingside-boards 3 between which a seat section t is guided, said section 4 being mounted on appropriate rockers 5 which are held in proper position upon the base by suitable lugs 6 engagiiiig keepers 7.

The seat section i: is preferably in the form of a box to con. .1 bed clothing and this box is provided with a hingd cover 8. The rockers are preferably provided with rubber tires 5.

When the back section 9 is in the last named position, its outer end is supported by crossed. legs 11. which are self-extensible when the back is swung downwardly and seliicontractible when said back isrighted. The inner-end of the baclr section 9, when said section is swung to a horizontal position, rests on a wall 12 whichextcnds upwardly from the rear end of the base 1., whereby to prevent any rocking ofthe scat section 4.

To hold the back section 9 in one of its inclined positions, it may well be provided with a relatively long folding leg 13 (see Figs. 1, 3 and 6).

Straddling the box a and pivoted at their front ends thereto as indicated at 14, are two arm-carrying side members 15 having rcari-vardly extending portions 16 straddling the back section 9 and provided with a plurality of notches 17 forming hooks for coaction with lugs 18 on said back section, whereby to hold the latter in substantially upright position or in one of its inclined positions, when the device is to chair. W henever desired, the side members 15 may be swung forwardly and downwardly as shown in Figs. 1 and 6, whereupon bumpcrs 19 carried by the extensions 16 will rest upon the floor. When new, the back section 9 is swung rearwardly to an inclined position as dotted in Fig. 6, an eiiective lounge will be provided whereas throwing said back section to the full line position disclosed in F is. 6 will convert the device into a full-length bed. By merely throwing the back section 9 downwardly without turning the side members 8 downwardly (see Fig. i), an effective childs bed is provided, side pieces for the bed being formed by said members 15.

I have shown no mattress associated with the seat section 4, the back section 9 and the side members 15 but one may be used, supported on the spring 23 and it will be seen that this mattress will term the upholstery oi the entire device.

From the foregoing,

taken in connection be used as a a and movable downwardly to with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a highly efficient and desirable article of furniture, which may be converted for use as a Morris chair, as a lounge, as a full-length bed, or as a relatively short childs bed. Since excellent results may be obtained'from the several details disclosed, they are preferably followed. It isto be understood however that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous changes may be made.

1. A convertible chair comprising a base, a seat section rockably mounted on said base, a back section pivoted to said seat section 'coact therewith in forming a bed, and means for preventing said seat section from rocking when said back section is swung downwardly, comprising a wall rising from and extending transversely across said base in rearof said seat section to support the inner end of said back section.

2. A convertible chair comprising a base, a seat section rockably mounted on said base, aback section pivoted to said seat section and movable downwardly to coact therewith in forming a bed, and an upwardly extending projection on the rear end of said base adapted to support the inner end of said back section when the latter is swung downwardly, whereby to prevent rocking of said seat section.

3. A convertible chair comprising a base, a receptacle rockably mounted on said base and adapted to contain bed clothing, a back section pivoted to the rear upper corners of said receptacle and normally forming a chair back, said back section being movable downwardly to a horizontal position when the device is to be converted into a bed, a pair of side members receiving said receptacle therebetween and hinged to said receptacle at its upper front corners, the hinge lines of said side members being disposed between the upper and lower edges of the latter, arms carried by the upper edges of said side members, said arms extending rearwardly beyond said side members and having hooks at their lower sides, lugs on the back section normally engaged by said hooks to hold said back section in vertical position and to retain said side members in position to hold said arms horizontally disposed, said side members and arms being adapted to be swung forwardly and downwardly to coact with the back and receptacle in forming a bed, and means on the rear ends of said arms, adjacent said back section, to support said arms and side members when swung downwardly and forwardly.

4. A convertible chair comprising a seat section, a back section hinged to the rear edge of said seat section to fold downwardly and rearwardly, a pair of side members pivoted to the front end of said seat section and adapted to swing downwardly and forwardly, arms carried by the upper edges of said side members and extending rearwardly beyond said members at opposite sides of said back section, the lower edges of the rearwardly extending portions of said arms being provided with front and rear notches, and projections on said back section receivable in either said front or rez notches to adjustably hold said back in either upright or inclined position.
