CROCHET NEEDLE.
Application led August 1, 1919.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 9, `1922.',
Serial No. 314,764. n v f l (GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS 0F THE ACT 0F MARGH 3, 1921, STAT. L., 1313.)
To all 'whom #may concern:
Be it known that I, VoJrnToH PUC, a citizen of the Czecho-Slovak Republic, residing at Prague-Vinohrady, in Bohemia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crochet Needles, (for which I have filed applications in Germany, filed Oct. 18, 1917, patented Aug. 28, 1918, No. 308,793; in Spain, filed Dec. 9, 1919, patented Mar. 15, 1921, No. 71,642; in France, liled Dec.
30, 1919, patented July 10, 1920, No.v
507,966,) of which the following is a speciflcation.
The object of this invention is tov provide a crochet needle of improved construction, made from a single piece of wire of uniform size and in'such manner as to provide a handle and a linger rest suitably located.
In the accompanying drawings l Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred form of needle embodying my improvements. v v
Figure 9, is a view on an enlarged scale illustrating more particularly the manner in which the end of the wire is held.
Figure 3 shows a section on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view of a modification in l which the shank of the needle, 0r that part forming the handle in Figure 1, is ymade shorter and inserted in a woodenV handle.
Referring to Figures 1, 2, and 8, the handle A and the working end B of the needle are made from a single piece of wire. The
* working end is formed with the usual hook Z) and the wire is bent at ato form the two members of the handle. The upper portion of the handle has a. narrow loop w, while the lower portion has a wider loop y. The two members of the handle are brought together at .aand are then spread and curved to form a circular tinger rest D. The free end of the bent wire is then brought close to the wire on the other side of the needle and is held there by clamp E, preferably made of sheet metal and so formed as to lock the two sides of the needle together in the manner indicated, particularly in Figure 3, so that thel two sides of the needle are rigidly held in place and the clamp itself is prevented from slipping endwise on the needle owing to its particular shape and to the face that it holds the free end of the wire under tension. i
In Figure 4 a modification is shown in" which the needle is made much shorter, providing merely a shankfor the needle which is inserted in 'a lsocket, in a suitable handle or hand piece F, from which it may be removed and the needle may be reversed so. that its hooked end will extend into a socket f formed in the handle. 'Ineach ease, however, 'the working part Vof the needle and the linger piece, as well as vthe shank or handle A, are formed from a single piece of wire. Needles of the form illustrated can be very easily made at smaller expensey thanv the ordinary kind. The shape of the needle is most convenientand the fingerrrest yis a desirable feature.
The needle, a Wiii te'` Observeais ma@ i Y from a single piece lof wire and a single The wireis of subpiece of sheet metal. stantially the same lthickness throughout except at the extreme end where the hook is located. It will be lobserved that the clamp E has a fiat side which can readily receive a trade-mark and designations indi-- p,
eating the number and size of the needle.
I claim as my invention:-
1. A crochet needle formed from a single vpiece of wire, having a hooked working end and a handle formed by' bending the wire upon itself to form a narrow loop and a wide loop, anda ring to provide a finger rest, in combination with a clamp yfor holding the free end of the'wire close to theinner portion of the working end of the needle.
2. A crochet needle formed from a single piece of wire, having a hooked working end.; and a handle formed -by bending the wire'4 upon itself to form two handle members, and a linger rest in combination with ya clamp made of sheetinetal which embraces the inner portion of the working end of the 3.' A 'crochet needle formed from a singlel piece of wire having a hooked working end anda handle formed by bending the wire upon itself to form a` loop, and a ring tov provide a linger rest yin combination'.with4 a` clamp for holding the free lend of the wire below the ring close to theinner portion of the working end of` thehandle. 1
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto` subscribed my name.
