IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-MIRRORS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,476, dated August 5, 1873; application led June 23,1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that we, HERMANN Voss and HERMANN PETER BRANDT, of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Window-Mirror 5 and we do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beingrhad to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a sectional elevation of a building, showing the mirror applied to one of the windows thereof. Fig. 2 is an enlarged side view of the mirror. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the saine.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

rlhe object of this invention is to employ in a suitable frame a number of mirrors, which are arranged at such angles that when the frame is placed outside of a window in an upper story of a building a person sitting at such window can see objects on the sidewalk below without reaching outside of the window, as will be hereinafter explained.

rlhe following description of our invention will enable others skilled in the art to understand it.

In the accompanying drawings, Arepresents a box or frame presenting six sides, four of which sides have mirrors a a a a applied to them in any suitable manner. The side b represents the horizontal top of the box A, and the side b represents that end which is farthest from the window to which the mirror is applied. On top of this box or mirror a tube, c, is formed, which receives a bracket, B, that extends out from the window-sill, and is secured at the middle of its length. The two mirrors a a diverge outwardly or toward the outer end b, and are in vertical planes. These mirrors are arranged at such angles as will refleet directly into the window persons on the sidewalk approaching the house from either directionthat is to say, these mirrors enable a person sitting in a room to look up or down the street without exposing themselves outside of the window. y The two mirrors a ai di verge upwardly and outwardly at such angles as will reflect persons or objects directly beneath the window into the room, thus enabling a person sitting in the room of an upper story to see a person at the front door below without exposing himself or herself.

The frame may be made of light metal, which will not warp by exposure to dampness and heat, and the mirrors may be applied into this frame, in any convenient manner.

Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure. by Letters Patent, is

The window-mirror, consisting of the box or frame A and the mirrors a a c a', the mirrors a a diverging outwardly or toward the outer end b, and being in vertical planes, while the mirrors a a diverge upwardly and outwardly at angles which will redect objects directly beneath the window in which the mirror is placed into the room, all substantially as herein described.
