IMPROVEMENT I'N BURGLAR-ALARMS.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 167,725, dated September 14, 1875; application filed June 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH B. ALLEN, of Linesville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Burglar-Alarms and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

is a plan view of my burglar-alarm, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the same.
This invention has relation' to improvements in burglar-alarms, which are designed to prevent the entrance of thieves or other unauthorized persons into a house or apartment.
The object of the invention is to devise a means whereby a single alarm mechanism may be made to protect all the windows and doors of an apartment or house against the noiseless entrance of all persons whatever.
In the annexed drawings, A designates an apartment having a number of doors and windows, in connection with which I propose to illustrate my invention. B indicates a clockwork alarm mechanism, arranged preferably at one corner of the room out of reach of a person leaning in a window from the outside. 0 represents a number of wire frames, which are stiffened by means of a rib, 0, and are suspended by means of a hook, to, from the upper part of a window-frame. These frames are connected by means of wires D and bellcranks E, the latter being pivoted in any suitable manner to a shelf or support, b,'at the corners of the room, one of these cranks being at each corner except the one at which the alarm mechanism is placed, where a bent wire, F, is substituted for the purpose of completing the circuit of the room. The frames, connecting-wires, and bell-cranks are detachably'connected with each other, and they may be removed from their respective positions when not in use, and stowed away out of sight, so that they do not in any manner detract from the appearance of the room. Being very light, also, a traveler may carry them from place to place, and thus have a means whereby valuable property in his room at a hotel may be protected from thieves. Wire F is provided with ,an upward projection or post, (1, which supports a tripping-arm, e, rigidly secured to the hammer-post f of the alarm mechanism when the latter is wound up, and which prevents the hammer g from striking the bell a through the operation of the actuating-spring .9 until the said post is thrust from under tripping-arm 0, thereby releasing the hammer by an attempt of a person to enter the room through a door or window.
The frames which protect the doors protect both the upper and lower panels of the same-that is to say, that a burglar is unable to avoid the frame either by cutting out the upper or lower panels.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a burglar-alarm, the wire frame 0, with rib a, suspended from the window-frame, in combination with the wires D, bell-cranks E, and an alarm mechanism, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a burglar-alarm, the suspended Wire frames 0, wires D, and bell-cranks E, all detachably connected with each other, for the purpose set forth.
