LEWIS FRITZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINQIS.
PICTURE-FRAIME STAND.
Application fi1ed Novembe1-"30, 1921. Serial No. 518,785.
T 0 all-whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, LEWIS FRITZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county ofCook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Frame Stands, of which the following is a specipicture frame stands and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character whichwill be is highly efiicient in use and economical in manufacture. 7 I
A further object ofmy inventionis the provision of ,a picture frame stand, of the character illustrated in the drawings, which can be adjusted to. it various sizes of picture frames. v
Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and-claimed.-
The invention willbe best understood byreference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, p Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of themvention;
.Fig. 2 same;
Fig.
is a side elevational view. of the :1 same taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. 1
Fig. dis a fragmentary; sectionaldetail View of the same taken substantlally, on line 4+4 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5, is a-fragmentary sectional detail i view of the sametaken substantially on line 5-5'ofFig. l; p I
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sectlonal' detail view of the same taken substantially on linev .'',66 of Fig. 2; and
"member 10 which, as shown, is in. the form" Fig. 7v is a perspective View of one of the.
end filler blocks embodied inthe invention. The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprlses .a base of a sheet metal box-like structure. Formed in the top of the base member 10 is a dovetailed groove 11 whichextends longitudinally with respect thereto, as shownv in Figs.
3' is a sectional detail View of the 3 and 5. Slidably mounted in the ydovetailed groove 11 is a pair of co-operating supports 12, each of which being provided Specification otLetters ratent. Patented May 2 -192 2. 1 i
at their groove-engaging ends with a foot 13 whlch corresponds in shape and size with sitionin the groove 11 that the remaining portion of the groove will be open, into which filler members are mounted to give the base the appearance of a solid construction. The filler members comprise filler blocks 1a which are mounted in the opposite the groove 11. It will be found that after.
mounting the supports 12 in the desired po ends of the groovev 11 adjacent the outer ends 11, the arrangement being such so as to prevent the filler blocks from becoming {acciof each of the feet 13 of the 'supports l2k The filler blocks 14 areconstructed so as to; tightly engage the surfaces of the groove dentally displaced and t0 firmly'retain the supports in position. A filler member is also mounted in the groove 11, between the inner ends of the feet 13,}said member comprising filler blocks 15 and 16, which are also shapedto correspond with the shape of vthe groove. 11, said blocks being also arranged to tightly engage the surfaces of the groove. FiXedly secured to the filler block 16 is a sheet metal tongue 18 which slidably engagesa'recessed sheet metal member 19 which is fixedly secured to the filler block 15, as shown in Fig. l. The specific construction so farlde-. "I 1 scribed provides supports whichcan easily be adjusted towards and away from each other and firmly retained in any desired position. Th'e filler blocks 14; may be of a con- 1' zstruction similar to the construction of the filler blocks, 15 and 16 to avoid the necessity of manufacturing 'end'filler members of va- 'rious lengthsito fill. the end spaces of the groove 11 when. the supports are moved};
being-provided to firml'ysecurethe supportthe picture frame 26, the arrangement being such that the spring members 27 will retain the picture frame in any desired position when mounted in the recesses 25. This arrange'ment' also permits picture frames of 'va'rious lengths to be positioned in the re.-
esses 25. When a'large picture frame, such as'is shown in Fig. 1, is positioned in the recesses 25, the lower edge 28 of the pictur frame 26 can be permitted to rest upon the top 29 of the lower ends of each of the supporting arms2O and 21, which are in the form of a box-like structure, as shown.
The. preferred form of construction as herein set forth, comprises a picture frame stand which is formed of sheet metal; hoW- ever, the pictureframe stand can be a metal casting or made entirely of wood, as desired.
WVh-ile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification Without departing from the spirit of the invention. I,
therefore, do not Wish to be-liniitedto the. precise details OfCOnStlflCtiOD set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within'the scope of the appended claims. 1
