Be it known that I, PHILIP? MOELLEN- DICK, a citizen of the Republic of Germany,

residing in the boron h of Manhattan, city,

county, and-State of ew York, have invented an Improvement in Gas-Burner Attachments,-of which the following is a specification;

Thisinvention relates to a gas burner-fat tachinent designed to concentrat'e'the flame frorna gasbur'ner' and-to retain the heat within the same by preventing the influence of air currents from dissipating the heat to places other than that to which it is desired to direct the same. V I am aware that heretofore various forms of gas burner and gas stove attachments have been made for simi lar purposes. For example, as shown in Letters Patent No. 1,142,603, granted to me June 8, 1915, there is shown and described a gas stove attachment for accomplishing simi- In the form of the invention shown in the aforesaid patent, however, the

7 structure is adapted more or less exclusively to be employed in the manufacture of new gas ranges and is not adapted, readily, to be applied to gas rangeswhich are designed in their manufacture to be made without the same. The object of my present invention,

consequently, is to provide a relatively inexpensive article 'whichmay be handled, for example, in a mail order business and may be readily applied to a gas burner of substantially any type to accomplish the desired objects in a sufficiently practical way to effeet a material saving in the use of gas. j

In carrying out my invention the attachment preferably comprises a plurality of sections made of sheet metal or other similar material adapted normally to lie flat so as to be readily packed for shipping and to be as sembled by attaching the sections to one an: other which when thus connected may be secured to the gas burner by means provided for this purpose so as to surround the gas burner and to direct the flame from the same and at the same time form a chamber for retaining the heat and directing the same for proper application.

The gas burner maybe of any type whatsoever. 2 Asiillustrated, I have shown acircular form of burner indicated at 10 which, as is customary, is connectedto a supply pipe 11 by which it may also be supported. The burner includes the circular or ring'member 12 in the upper portion of which there are the customary holes or apertures 13 through which the gas passes and at the orifices of which the gas burns.

The attachment made in accordance with i this invention preferably comprises strips of sheet metal or other similar material which is indicated in Figs. 3 and 4 preferably made on arcs of circles so as to beassembled to form a conical attachment. -()ne sectionof the attachment is indicated at 14:, another section at 15.. In the lower edges both of these sections may be provided with notches 16 to receive the arms of a gas burner when the radial arm form of burner is employed. Also as illustrated one of the members as in-' dicated at 15 is provided at or adjacent its extremities with -;finge1's'-17 and 18 adapted to be turned overto the positions shown in Fig. 1 so as to receive the ends ofthe section 1 1 as indicated in Fig. 5 whereby as, will be understood the sections of the attachment are assembled and adjusted to the necessary diameter for use on any particular burner. The section 14; is furthermore provided with a projection 19 and the section 15 with asimilar projection 20 which, when the parts are in their assembled positions, are oppositely disposed so as to be turned in against the outer surface of the burner irrespective of the type of the same in orderto secure the attachment in position.

It will be understood thatv while I have herein shown and described a gas burner attachmentcomprising two sections that any desired number of sections may be employed, and furthermore that while I have shown and describedoverturned fingers on one section for engaging the adjacent end of another section for securing the sections adjustably to one another, and have shown projections adapted to be inturned to secure the attachment in place on a gas burner, other similar and equivalent meansjmay be employed without departing from the nature and spirit of my invention. v

I claim as my invention:

1. A gas burner attachment comprising a plurality of sections, each section being made from sheet metal cut in the form of an arc of a circle, means for attaching the sections adjustably to one another, and means for securing the attachment to a gas burner, the said sections when thus assembled and connected assuming a conical formation to direct the heat toward the center of the burner. 7

A gas burner attachment comprislng a plurality of sections, each section being made from flat sheet metal in the form of an arc of r a circle, overturned fingers adjacent the ends ably connecting the sections to one another so that when connected the sections assume a conical configuration, and an extension from the lower edge of each section adapted to be inturned to engage the surface of the gas burner to secure the attachment in position thereon.
