' with said adjacent portions at approximately all points throughout their area, and
in addition, by reason of the fact that the outer sides of the same extendbelow the upper side of said sign 2, the adjacent portions 0t said sign will be firmly clamped or maintained 1n engagement with the inner side of said wind shield panel, thus preventing rattling or similar vibration of the sign with relation to the wind shield glass, that is, such vibration as may be termed oscillatory and which would result in the production of a disagreeablesound during movement of the vehicle by reason of the recurring contact of the sign with an adjacent portion of the windshield panel. Another clasp 13 is arranged upon the outer end of the sign 2, preferably, at a point adjacent the lower corner of the same as shown in the Figure 1, this clasp being likewise of substantially U-shaped formation but being curved throughout whereby the same will conform or approximately conform to the shape Of the adjacent stanchion of the windshield '10 andin consequence, will have snug engagement with the same at all times whereby to prevent objectionable rattling andjlikevibration. The outer end of this clasp 13 is out turned 0r bentas at, lat-in a fashion similar to. the arrangement indicated at12 in connection with the clasps 11 and a'swi-llbe appreciated, will facilitate its en gagement with the wind shield stanchion.
Fro nthe foregoing, it will be understood that we have provided an exceedingly simple but effectual form of illuminated. sign especially desirable for use in connection with the advertising of automobile hacks and like conveyances, whereby when the same is attached to the windshield of such a vehicle. the public will be advantageously appraised of the facilities offered byit. The arrangement ot'the invention is such as will permit its quick and ready attachment to the panel of an automobile wind-shield without alteration thereto, by merely moving the same laterally and downwardly whereby to engage the flattened U-shaped clasps 11 over the marginal portion of one panel of the'wind shield 10 and the clasp 13 with the stanchion embodiment herein shown may be substituted, such as conditions or preference may dictate. If desired, a sign formed entirely of translucent material having descriptive matter ground, painted or otherwise presented thereon may be employed.
Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of our claims, we consider withinthe spirit of our, invention. I
We claim:
1 A device of the character described comprising a housing, a light source therein, a sign constituting one wall of the houring adapted to be illuminated by said light source, spring clasps fixedly secured to the top of said sign adjacent its opposite ends andextending outwardly from the outer face of said" sign, having flattened engaging surfaces and the outer sides thereof elongated andextended below the upper side of said. sign, and another clasp secured to one end of the, sign and extending outwardly from its outer face. i
2. A sign of the character described comprising a. housing, a lightsource therein, sign hinged to the open front of said'hous ing adapted to constitute a wall therefor and to beilluminated bysaid light source,
means for connecting the, tree portion of said signto the housing, spring sheet metal clasps fixedly secured to the upper side of saidsign in proximity to its opposite ends and adjacent to the base thereof having their tree portion substantially U -shaped and flattened andextending outwardly trom theouter. side ofth'e sign, the outer sides of saidclasps being elongated and extended below. the upper side of the sign, and another spring sheet metal clasp secured to one end wallof the sign adjacent its lower corner extending outwardly from the outer face thereof. i i
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands.
