HHeietofoiei much difficulty ex-v i ln for-such purposes, whereby such a light is provided that may beconveniently and 'apfpropriately located and supported in a Inanner that will be not only convenient t mount in place and remove but also will supl port the lightin a position that will lnot interfere with a view of the bodyin the casket and will permit of decorations of any character appropriate for the occasion, all as will be hereinafter more fully de'- scribed` and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the light support and shade frame embodying my said invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof with parts broken away,` f
Figure 3, a detail perspective of they lamp support, and
Figure 4, a detail view of the bale-like member for supporting the shade.
In said drawings the portion marked indicates a main support or bracket; 11 a supplemental support hingedthereto and 12 a shade frame. c t y The bracket 10 consists of a curved arm having an angle iron base l5A adapted to engage the corner of the casket lid when the lid is raised. The supplemental support 11 is preferably of thin metal and is hinged to the base 15 so that it may hang at any angle in respect to said base that may be required in order to fit or lieagainst the surface of the casket lid. Said' part 11 is-covered with fabric of appropriate character, such as plush or'similar material, which extends for a distance beyond the part 11 and is provided with a weighted end 16 of suflicient Weight to overbalance the weivht of the shade and light on the projecting end of bracket 10.`
The shade frame 12 comprises a main frame of substantially rectangular form havingangular'corners and curved, bars extending upwardly therefrom toga 'smaller frame member'lS o fappropriate'form at the upper end. A bale-like cross member 19 is connected with theends of said member 18 and extends through'va perforation in the lower end of arm 10 and is held by a setscrew y2() adaptedto impinge a ainst the side theref of and hold the memerrigid and said' shade atwhatever angle desired. i Said shade frame is covered with matelen y rial of any appropriate character `for the purpose, such as silk of a color that will tonel the light as may be desired, and bearing such ornamentation as maybe desired for any purpose. In the drawing I have indicated a rosette onthe'front side of the shade and on this rosette an emblem or badge 21 may be pinned, such emblem vor badge .being to rdenote any order or organization to which the deceased may have belonged. This, however, is only in the way of a suggestion as to how the lamp shade may be utllized not only for the purpose of decoration butfor the other purposes as well. p 1
To a cross-bar 22 supported by two of the members 12 a lamp socket 23 of any usual yor appropriate construction may be mounted in whichy a` lamp 24 is mounted, vsuch lamp socket bein connected by wires- 25 which extend yun erneath the arm 10 over the support 15 and under the covering on the hinged arm 11 to a point where an attachin socket 26 may be supporteddoy means o` which an electrical connection may be established with the light from any source of supply through the medium of an ordinary connecting cord, all as will be 'readily' understood. y f
`By this construction yof device, v as will be readily understood, ya light may be appropriately supported in connection with a casket and in a manner to be entirely out of the way of floral and other decorations land at the same time in a position which will be of greatest advantage notionly for the purpose of illumination but also for purposes of suitable decoration. f v
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may bel made in my device without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I, therefore, do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawin s and describedin the specification, but on y. v
as set forth in the appended' claims.l
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A casket light support comprising an arm, a frame for a light pivoted to one end of said arm, a base ri idly mounted at the other end of said arin or engaging theedge of a casket lid,`said base having a depending portion for engaging the front of the' ele vated casket lid and a rearwardly extending portion corresponding `to the thickness 'of said'lid, and a flat strap yhinged to the rear end kof said rearwardly extending portion and having a Weight at itslowerfend, said Weightbeing heavier than the arm and ineinbers supported thereby andserving to over'- balance said armand light frainevand inain tain said base in'xed position on its port, substantially asset forth.` p
2. lightsupport comprising a bracket suphaving a rigid support engaging member at one end and a frame for a light at its opposite end, said rigid support engaging (member having a depending leg and a substantially horizontally, disposedleg, and a strap attached to the outer end of said horizontally disposed leg and provided with a Weight. at its lower end heavier than'the bracket and finembei's supported thereby,
said depending leg and strap being adapted toengage 'opposite sides of a support while twenty-six.
