To all'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J o'snrrr A. BROCKEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sharon, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Container Caps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to containers for salt, pepper, spice, etc., and more particularly to the caps therefor, whereby a small or large amount of the contents can beejected as desired and ismore sanitary than the perforated caps now in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture and readily and easily manipulated for the above mentioned puroses.

Other objects of the invention will appear as the nature of the same is better understood, the invention residing in the combination, construction and arrangement of the parts hereinafter more fully described.

Referring more particularly to the drawing 7 indicates a container which may be made of any suitable material and construction provided with a cover 8 which has a slot 9 to admit depression 10 on handle 11.

Handle 11 is flanged downwardly as at 12 which closes outlet 13 in cover 8. A

seam 14: is provided on cover 8 to receive curled edge 15 on cap .16 Fig. 5 and Fig. 6 and thus firmly connecting the cap therewith. I

The cap 16 has a slot 17 and another slot 18 provided directly opposite slot 17. These slots admit handle 11 to pass through and flange 12 on said handle alined within slot 17. The narrow rounded end 19 is formed .to provide a finger hold on handle 11 and which extends a considerable distance beyond the slot 18 in cap 16, the handle 11 being placed on top of cover 8 and arranged to reciprocate within the cap as at 20 Fig. 2.

The aperture 21 in cap 16 is provided to receive a rivet 22 which passes through the aperture 23 in flat spring 24 to cap 16 said rivet is clinched as at 25 Fig. 2 thereby connecting the flat spring securely.

The flat spring 24 is formed to a suitable shape as at 26 Fig. 2 and extends inside of depression 10 in handle 11 as at 29 Fig. 2.

Manifestly by reason of this construction and arrangement, the cover 8 is placed inside of cap 16 Fig. 2 and the handle 11 reciproeating upon cover 8 is guided by the slots 17 and 18 in cap 16 allowing only a sliding movement as at 28 Fig. 2 and flange 12 on handle 11 closes outlet 13 in cover 8 and is firmly held in this position by the flat spring pigessing upon the handle 11 as at 27 *1 Friefly stated, the use of the device is as follows: When it'is desired to open the cap, the container is held at a convenient angle and handle 11 is pushed inwardly at finger hold 19 thus the flanged end 12 on handle 11 projects through the opposite side of cap 16 consequently, opening slot 17 in cap 16 and outlet 13 in cover 8. The depression in handle 11 acts as a scraper thereby forcing out the contents as desired, at the same time,

. increasing the tension on the flat spring 24.

Obviously, to close the cap, merely release finger hold 19 and the flat spring 24 forces handle 11 back in closedposition.

The name of the contents in container may beindicated by raised letters 30 as shown on cap 16 Fig. 1 and Fig. 5.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be manifest that I have devised a construction, which can be easily manipulated to open and close the cap, also the contents are not exposed to foreign substances when container is not in use as is the case of the perforated cap.

While I have shown and described, what I at this time consider the preferred form of my invention, I desire to have it understood that the same is merely illustrative, and that various changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to when desired, as fall within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention.

What I claim is The combination with a container, of a cap therefor formed with a flange having a beaded edge, and two oppositely arranged slots insaid flange; a handle provided with a flange at one end, a projection in the center and a finger piece at opposite end adapted to be received Within said cap and guided by said slots therein, a cover having a flange With curled edge to receive the bead of said cap, said flange having a dispensing slot adapted to be closed by the flange of said handle, the top of said cover being slotted to receive the projection in the handle, a

spring mounted in the top of the cap Ineni- 10 her and curved vdownwardly so as to rest Within and press againstone side of the handle projection, thereby holding the flange of said handle against the outlet in the cover,

and thus holding said opening normally 15 closed.
