INDIVIDUAL LEMON OR ORANGE SQUEEZER.
Specification of Letters Patent.

- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES E. P. PENDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new Improvement in Individual Lemon or Orange Squeezers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in individual lemon or orange squeezers intended for serving slices of the fruit.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, novel, efficientand inexpensive device of this type.
In the drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of the invention showing the cover in open position. Fig. 2 is a detail fragmentary perspective view of a portion of the cover. Fig. 3 is a detail fragmentary perspective view showing the squeezing jaws or members. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of F ig. 1. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the squeezing aws or members.
The invention includes a body formed to have a bottom 1, sides 2, a front end pro vided with a juice outlet 3 and a rear end 4: which is formed with slots 5 and 6 separated by a web 7 The bottom 1 preferably has struck therefrom protuberances 8 which form depending feet to support the device on a table or other surface. A cover 9 is pivoted to a pin 10, the latter extending through the bottom 1, as shown in Fig. 5. One side of the cover 9 is formed with an upturned finger engaging piece 11, whereby the cover may be moved from open to closed position and vice versa. The rear end a of the body is formed at its top with an outwardly extending horizontal curved flange 12 which is for engagement with the curled lip 13 formed at the rear end of cover 9, the lip 18 of U-shape so as to conformably receive the flange 12, whereby the cover 9 in its opening and closing movements is positively guided. In order to restrict the swing movement of the cover 9 the same is provided with a depending lug 14 which is adapted to engage the inner faces of the sides 2, thereby limiting the swinging move ment of the cover in an obvious manner.
The squeezing jaws or members 15 are each of U-shape in cross section as illustrated in Fig. 6, same being provided with perforated lugs 16 at their top and bottom edges and with an offset handle 17, the latter operating in the grooves 5 and 6, as shown in Fig. 1. The jaw members 15 have their lugs 16 received over the pin 10 whereby the jaw members are pivoted to said pin 10. A coiled spring 18 surrounds pin 10 and has its ends engaging with the jaw members 15, thereby normally serving to force the same apart to the position depicted in Fig. 1.
From the above it will be seen that the sides 2 of the housing form a means for restricting the outward movement of the squeezer members against the action of the spring 18, which latter tends to force the members to their open position. Similarly the web 7 restricts the contracting movement of the jaw members when the latter are manually manipulated. It will be seen that the inner ends of the jaw members 15 are open, thus permitting the juice from the lemon or orange to readily pass to the outlet opening 8. It will be understood that in operation a slice or portion of the lemon or orange or other fruit is placed in the housing bet-ween the jaw members 15, the latter occupying the position depicted in Fig. 1, after which the cover 9 is swung to its closed position and the handles 17 brought together, thereby squeezing the fruit between the aw members in an obvious manner. When pressure is released on the handle members 17 the spring 18 will return them to their outward position illustrated in the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a lemon squeezer or the like, a housing, said housing comprising sides, a front end formed with a juice outlet, and a rear end formed with a pair of openings with a web separating the inner ends of the openings, a cover, a pin passing through the cover and through the bottom of the housing, a pair of U-shaped jaw members having their inner ends received over the pin and having their outer ends formed with handles which project through the openings in the rear end of the housing, and a spring coiled about said pin and having its ends engaging the jaw members to normally force the same apart and against the sides of the housing.
2. In a lemon squeezer, a housing, a pair of pivoted spring pressed squeezing members on the interior of the housing, a cover pivoted to the housing and formed with a curled lip at one end thereof, said housing having an outwardly extending flange received in the space formed by the curl of said lip, and a lug depending from the cover and adapted to engage the sides of the housing to thereby restrict the swinging movement of the cover in both directions.
3. In a lemon squeezer, a housing formed with a juice outlet at its front end and with a pair of spaced slots at its opposite end, a swinging cover for the housing and a pair of spring pressed squeezing members on the interior of the housing formed with operating means which extend through said slots of the housing.
4. A lemon squeezer including a housing having a bottom, sides, and a front end formed with a juice outlet, an outwardly extending flange at the rear end of the hous ing, a cover pivoted adjacent the front end and having a lip at its rear end which embraces said flange, means to restrict the swinging movement of the cover, and squeezing mechanism on the interior of the housing.
5. In a lemon squeezer, a housing including a bottom, sides, a front end, a rear end, said rear end being formed with a pair of openings with a web separating said openings, a pair of pivoted spring pressed jaw members, in the housing having their outer ends formed with handles which extend through said openings and have their inward movement restricted by engagement with opposite sides of said web.
6. In a lemon squeezer, a housing, a cover pivoted to one end of the housing, one of the said parts having a flange and the other part a channeled portion to slidably receive the flange and guide said parts positively in their relative movement, a projection carried by one of the parts to engage the other part and restrict the relative movement between the parts, and squeezer mechanism on the housing interior.
7. In a lemon squeezer, ahousing includ ing a bottom, sides, a front end having a juice outlet, a rear end formed with slots, 21 cover pivoted adjacent the front end and having a swinging movement in a plane parallel to that in which the bottom lies, and squeezer mechanism on the interior of the housing having handles which project through said slots so as to be operable from the housing interior.
