With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims. v
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the spinning top and the support therefor; and
Figure 2 is a similar view of a modified form of the same.
The improved toy illustrated in Figure 1 consists essentially of a magnet 10. one or two spinning tops 11 alike in construction, and a suspenslon means 12, in the form of a string, for holding the magnet 10 in suspended position by the operator of the toy, as indicated in Figure l. The magnet 10 is shown as of the permanent horseshoe type but I do not limit myself to this particular form of magnet as the same may be in the form of a bar or an electroma et. Each of the spinning tops 11, shown in igure 1, comprises a spindle 15 on which is secured a disk-shaped body 16, and the spindle 15 terminates in pointed ends 17 and 18 and the spindle is provided adjacent the pointed end 18 with an armature 19, preferably in the form of'soft iron in the shape of a knob or a bead. It will be no-- ticed that by the arrangement described the top 11 can be spun by the user ofthe toy in the usual manner with the point 17 i p g g me twi h a t l p r Patent r other surface, and then one of the legs of the magnet 10 is movedadjacent the other pointed end 18 whereby'the armature 19. is attracted to permit of lifting'the spinning 7 top 11 off the table or other surface with the pointed end 18 in spinning engagement with'the face of the corresponding leg of the magnet 10. It will further be noticed that two tops 11 while spinning may be supported on the two legs of the ma et 10 in the. manner above described, an as the'magnet '10 is'held suspended by the user of the toy the latter is rendered exceedingly attractive both to the user and the onlookers. As shown in Figure 2, the magnet 10 and v its suspension means 12 shown in Figure 1, but the form of a gyroscopic toy having a frame 21, a spindle 22 journaled carrying a body 23. The frame'21 is provided with stems 24, 25 in alinement with the spindle 22, and the said stems 24 and 25 terminate in armatures 26, 27, preferably in the form ofsoft iron knobs, either of are the same as which is adapted to be attracted by one leg of the magnet 10 while the other leg of the magnet engages the frame 21 to hold the gyroscopio toy suspended on themagnet 10, and while the body 23 and its spindle 22 rotate in the frame 21. r i
