' UNITED STATES PATENT;OFFICE:
rETER BALLAZ, F wEsriNEW YORK, NEw'JERsnY.
'ORNAMENTAL COMBINATION woon, COAL; OIL, AND xnnosnnn, s'rovn I Application filed November To alien/tom it may concern Be it known that l. Para llinmi. citizen of CzechoSlovakia, residing at est; New York. in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Orna- .n1ental Combination 00d, Coal. Oil. and
Kerosene Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stoves, having more particular reference to a stove arranged either to burn coal or to have an The invention has for a general object to provide an improvcd'stove, ofthe kind set forth above, and further to provide a simple means for'the simultaneous controlj of a multiplicity of burner wicks.
For further comprehension of the invention; and or" the 'objefcts; and advantages thereof,' reference will be hadto the following description and accompanying drawings and to the appended claims in which thevarious novel features oftheinvention are more particularly set forth.
' Fig. 1 of the *drawings is a plan vieiv of a stove constructed according. to the nthe line 4-4 shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
regulating means.
Fig. 5 is a-detail'plan View of the oil burner.
Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view on' the line 66 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7- is a detail elevation of the wick Fig. 8 is an enlarged fragmentary horizontal section on the line 88 of Fig. 6.
As here embodied my-improved stove comprises a baselO above which is an ash-pit 11 separated by a grate 12. from a fire-pot 13 of approximately globular shape. Above the fire-pot 13 is a vertically disposed cylin-- drical member 14': hinged at one-side to the fire-pot as at 15. The sides'of the fire-pot 13 and cylinder 14 are shown as provided with'ornamental scroll-straps 16 and 17 one' of the latter supporting the cylinder 14 in a horizontal position when swung open.- The s ecification of Letters Patent. which is indicated at 23, to the chimney.
The cylinder l t-hasprovidedtherein be low the-opening 22, an qv'en 25"closfed by a door 26. draft spaces'being left between the sides'jof thi Owen n e Walls dfathe cylinder.
a portion of The grate 12 is preferably ojf-the'lilting l type, liay ing trunnion elements 28 suitably supported in "the stove wa'lls,;one'0fthese trunnion elements being *formed with "a squared end adapted to receive a suitable handle. grate 12 rests at opposite sides on {a fixed stop 29 "and a movablest 30, the latter being. int'h'e form of a short arm pivoted as at 31am provided with'an operating handle 32. 5
"The top of the base 1 0 formsthebottomi of the ash-pit 11 and islforine'd with a circular depression 34 throughout which a number of openings 35 are spaced. 1 A sitter disk 36 rests-inthis' depression being pivoted for rotation therein as at 37 and is provided with a number of-op'enings 38. Fixed to the disk 36 is a handle39 which extends out ward'through a suitable arcuate'slot in'the annular wall of the depression 34. An ash- -'pan 40 may be supported below the depression 34 to receive the ashes. The ash-pit 11 and fire-pot 13 are provided with suitable hinged doors 42 and 43. t
In the useof the stove coal or like solid fuel is preferably burned during the winter,
an oil burner being inserted in the fire-pot- 13 for use in the summer months.
' When oil'is to be utilized as the fuel for the stove the oil burner shown in Figs. 5 and 6 is placed in the fire-pot 13, resting upon the grate 12. This burner comprises a circular receptacle or bowl 45 having a flat top 16 in which a number of parallel rows of short vertical tubes 47 are fixed the tubes 47 extending downward for a distance into the bow]. and having flared upper ends'located just above the bowl top 46. Round wicks 48 are insertedinthese tubes 47'depending'be- .one side as at 55 to accommodate the starwheels 54. The shaft 50 has a knurled head 56 on one end for purposes of rotation.
The bowl 45 has hinged to one side thereof as at 60 a flat disk cover- 61 which is utilized to extinguish the flames of the wicks as follows Thebowl 45 isof less-size than the firepot 13, being insertible in the fire-pot through the top-of the latter when the 'cylfinder 14 is thrown back. Fixed to the cover -Gl, a shortdistance-from its hinge point 60, is-an ear 65- which is connected by a link -56: with ia lug 67.0n'the fire-pot wall. By
.move the v 'm oving' the bowl 45 backward or forward in the fire-pot the cover 61 is caused toxolose or open by'the action of link 66 thereon. To bowl 45 back and forward a rodGS is ifixed thereto-.and passes. outwardly .through a suitableopening'in the. firebox.
Incase it is: not deslred to use the cover opening andclosing means just described a finger 70 is pivoted in the cylinder 14 and has a handle 71 connected to it whereby it may be turned to engage with, or disengage from, the cover 61 to hold the latter raised. 1 If it is desired to use the oil burnerabove the "bowl .45. may be supported on a stand 7 5 while a suitable grill 76 may be supported 1 above the bowl to receive the cooking untenysils. I
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire toprotect by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:
1, I In a stove, a fire-pot, an oilburner resting freely in said fire-pot and movable bodily therein, and a cover for said oil burner adapted. to be automatically opened and closedupon movement of'said burner in opposite directions in said fire-pot.
2. An oil burner comprising a bowl, a series of rows of vertical tubes extending into said bowl from the top thereof, wicks in said tubes, a series of shafts extending along adjacent said rows of tubes, toothed wheels on said shafts adapted to engage said wicks,
a shaft extending transversely to the said se ries of shafts, a plurality of worm pinions on said lastshaft, and worm gears on the said series of shafts engaged by the said worm pinions.
0. An oil burner compr sing a bowl, a series of rows of vertical tubes extending into said bowl from the top thereof, wicks in said tubes, a seriesof shafts extending along ad'- jacent said rows of tubes, toothed wheels on said shafts adapted to engage said wicks,
a shaft extending transversely to the said serles of shafts, a plurality. of worm pinions on saidlast shaft, and worm gears on the.
said seriesof shafts engaged by the said worm pinions,'the said tubes being cut out at one side foraccess: of the said toothed wheels to the said WlCkS.
4. In a stove, a fire-pot, an Oll burnerrest-I mg freely in said fire-potand movable bod ily therein, a cover hinged to said oil burner, and means for clos ng or opening SZLlClCOYBl uponmovemento-f said oil burner in opposite directions in said fire-pot. x 1 5. In a stove, a fire-pot,an oil burner resting freely in said fire-pot and mova'ble bodily therein, a coverhinged to said oil burner,
and ineainsfor"closingor opening said cover pen movement of said: oilburner in opposite directions in said fire-pot,said-1neans comprising a lug fixed to theiirepot, an ear fixed to the cover, and a link connecting said lug and ear. Y
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature. r
