R'. H. MINER.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUSSELL H. MINER, OF ATKINSON, NEBRASKA.
HAY-BURNING APPARATUS.
PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 337.854, dated March 16', 1886.
Application filed April 24, 1884.
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, RUssELL H. MINER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Atkinson precinct,in the county of Holt and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Apparatus for Burning Hay, Straw, Cornstalks, Cobs, and other Light Fuel, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to those hay and straw burners wherein the fuel is placed in a magazine for burning; and it consists in the construction hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of the receiver. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the magazine and receiver supported upon thehearth of a cooking-stove. Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal section of the parts shown in Fig. 3.
A represents the receiver, having raised sides a, within which the lower edge of the magazine D is placed.
Bis an openingin the bottom of the receiver, corresponding in size and shape to the open end of the magazine. The lower part, c, of said receiver constitutes a fire-box, and has an opening, c, in its rear side for the escape of the flame and smoke of the burning fuel.
D represents the magazine, which constitutes an oblong receptacle closed at one end and open at the other. Said magazine, when in use, is placed in an inverted position over the opening B in the bottom of the receiver. The magazine is provided with handles X, which may be grasped in lifting the same.
E is the front ofthe stove, and e is its hearth or ash-pit.
The magazine and receiver, when in use, are supported on the hearth e, the opening c corresponding with the usual openings for the Serial No. 129,188. (Model.)
draft in such stove as that shown in the drawings. The hay or similar fuel is placed in the magazine B, and is gradually fed to the chamber C, where it is consumed, the smoke passing through the stove and through the usual smoke-pipe into the chimney. The ashes fall into the ash-pit or hearth e.
rlhe flanges a of the receiver serve to retain the particles of hay which might otherwise be scattered on the floor.
A draft-opening, d, governed by a register, is located at the front of the receiver for per- 4mitting a supply of air to pass into the iirebox C and support combustion. The opening c extends to the bottom of the receiver, so that it will be opposite that in the front of the stove when the receiver is in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. rlhe combination, with the receiver A, consisting of fire-box C, having the opening c in its rear side, the flanges a, and the bottom having the openingB therein, of the magazine D, having an open bottom which coincides with the opening B,substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a cooking-stove having a hearth and provided with an opening in the front, of the magazine D and receiver A, having an opening, c, in its rear side which coincides with that in the front of said stove, substantially as described.'
8. An attachment for stoves, consisting of the receiver A and magazine D, the former having a draft-opening and being provided with an opening in its rear side which extends substantially to the bottom of the same, substantially as described.
RUSSELL H. MINER.
