Description

H (5. AND G. B. HOFFMANN.
SHOULDER STRAP HOLDER.
APPLICATION mp0 .IULY 6,1920.

WITNESS INVENT O R5 H. .6. HOFFM/YNN 1WD 6 B,HOFFMANN A TTOR NE Y To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY G. HOFFMANN AND GENEVIEVE B. HOFFMANN, F OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
Be it known that we, HARRY Gr. Horr- MANN and GENEVIEVE B. HOEFMANE, citizens of the United States, and residents of Oakland, county of Alameda, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Shoulder-Strap Holder, of which the following is a specification.
, Our invention relates to a device for preventing the shoulder straps of garments, such as lingerie, from slipping off the wearers shoulders.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple inobtrusive device which will effectively retain the shoulder straps 'of a delicate undergarment in proper position when disposed upon the wearer.
The invention possesses other objects and features of advanta e, some of which, with the foregoing, will e set forth in the following description of the preferred form of my invention which is lllustrated in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the showing made by the said drawings and description, as we may adopt variations of the preferred form within the scope of our invention as set forth in the claims.
Referring to said drawings:
Fi 1 is a side elevation of the holder showing it attached to the shoulder straps of a camisole.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation ofa modified form of the holder.
Womens under-garments, such as camisoles and chemises, are usually supported by straps which are secured to the front and. back of the garment and extend over the shoulders of the wearer. Due to the con 'tinued movement of, the arms and the Specifibation of Letters latent.
SHOULDER-5TB! HOLDER. i
i A detailed description of the present embodiment of the invention follows:
The device comprises a pair of strap engaging members here shown in the form of elongated hooks 2 and 3 which are adapted to si the shoulder straps 4' and 5 respectively. The hooks are preferably constructed of a resilient material and. the mouth? thereof formed shallow so that the strap will be firmly held and clamped when engaged therein. The material out of which the straps of lingerie under-garments are made is generally of such thin texture that one hook can easily engage two straps so that if desirable and as shown in the drawings a single holder may be used to effectively retain the straps of both the undershirt 8 and camisole 9 at the same time.
Means are provided for connecting the two hooks together with a member of such length, flexibility and preferably of such resiliency that the straps will be retained in proper position when engaged by the hooks without any discomfort to the wearer or in any manner impede the free move- .ment of the wearers arms or body. The
to var the normal length of the cord it is.
only necessary to untie the knot, take u or leave out some of the cord and then retle it.
It is apparent that the holder may be constructed so that its appearance and value as well as its utility will add to its desirability, and accordingly in Figure 4 we have shown one of a number of ways of enhancing the appearance of the holder. In this embodiment the connecting member is in the form of a gold chain or the like, and is preferably connected to the hooks through the agency of springs 13 and 14 so that the desired resiliency of the member is provided.
In the use of the holder it is apparent that the hooks may be placed upon the wearer with the free end 15 of thehook either facing or turned away from the wearer, and further it must also be apparent that the holder may be made to engage the garment either before or after the latter 1s put on.
Patented Mar. 21, 1922. Application filed July 6, 1920. Serial No. 394,244..
over the outer edge of and engage We claim:
1. A device for retaining the shoulder straps of a garment in position, comprisin hooks adapted to slip over said straps, an an elastic member adjustably connecting! said hooks together 2. A device for retaining the shoulder straps of a garment in position comprising hooks adapted to engage said straps and each having the portions of the base folded so as to define a longitudinally extending passage, and an elastic cord engaging in said passages and having knotted end portions normally incapable of being passed through said passages.
liaiie eoe 3.. A device for retaining the shoulder straps of a garment in position comprisin hooks adapted to engage said straps an each having the side portions of the-base folded so as to unitedly define a partially closed tapering passage, and a flexlble cord engaging said openings and having knots at the end portions thereof adapted to lie within the respective openings and prevent the withdrawal of the cord therefrom.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands at Oakland, California, this 22nd da of June, 1920.
