COMBINED POOL AND LIBRARY TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 21, 1922.
Application filed February 1, 192-1. Serial No. 441,596.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES D. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Pool and Library Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention provides an article of furniture for the home which may be adapted for pastime or utilitarian purposes as required, the conversion from one use to the other being readily and easily effected.
The invention consists of a supporting frame and a two faced table pivotally mounted on the frame to admit of either face being brought uppermost into usable position, the table being made secure in either one of the two operative positions.
The invention consists of a table mounted as aforesaid having one face plain and the other face cushioned at its edges to admit of the game of pool being played thereon, said table having the usual corner and side pockets which in the present instance are removable and invertible to admit of the table presenting a plain or a pocketed surface.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and drawings hereto attached, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table adapted for playing the game of pool,
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing the table inverted with the plain side uppermost,
Figure 3 is a detail view of one of the pockets, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view showing the application of the ockets when closing the openings in the tab e.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The article of furniture comprises a table top 1 and a supporting frame, the latter consisting of standards 2 and a shelf 3 and foot rest 4. The standards 2 may be of any construction and are reinforced at their upper ends by means of cleats 5. The parts 3 and 4 bracingly connect the standards 2. These parts may consist of boards finished in any manner. The shelf 3 is located intermediate the ends of the standards where by the foot rest 4: is disposed near the lower ends thereof.
The table top 1 may be of any construction and has one side plain and its opposite side cushioned to admit of the playing of the game of pool thereon. The table top 1 is pivoted at its ends to the upper ends of the standards 2 in a manner to admit of said top being readily turned to bring either side uppermost into usable position. The pivot fastenings 6 are disposed intermediate the edges of the table top and standards so as to equalize the weight of the table top thereon. Pins 7 secure the table top in either one of its two positions. These pins pass through corresponding openings in the standards and table top. The several elements 6 and 7 pass through the reinforced ends o-fthe standards. When the pins 7 are removed the table top may be readily turned to bring either side in uppermost position. lVhen the pins 7 are in position, the table top is made secure in the required adjusted position.
The invention provides an article of furniture for the home which may be used as a library table or for playing the game of pool, being readily convertible from one use to the other. In either position, the table top is made secure and is not adapted to he accidentally displaced.
Having thus described my invention what I claim 1s:
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two wltnesses.
JAMES D. DAVIS.
Witnesses o H. R. HEEB, JOHN H. KANE.
