. A. E. BROWN CONVERTIBLE BILLIARD AND POOL TABLE ATTACHMENT H Filed Feb. 7, 1925 IN l/EN TOR 1955'. wwn' A TTORNEY Patented Aug. 11, 19251 UNI- T STATES ALFRED E. BROWN, OLE EAST HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
CONVERTIBLE BILLIAR-D .[LND POGL TABLE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed February 7, 1925.
To all whom 2'1. may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED E. BROWN, citizen of the United States of America, residing at 96 Tolland Street, East Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful ln'iprovements in Convertible Billiard and Pool Table Attachn'ients, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a convertible billiar-d and pool table attachment, among the objects oi? the invention being the provision of a article of this nature which is simpie in construction and which can be easily applied to an ordinary table whether parlor or kitchen use to convert into either a billiard or pool table. While the invention is susceptible to wide modification I have, nevertheless, in the drawing accompanying and forming part of the present specification shown in detail a form of embodiment of the invention which, to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same, will be fully set forth in the following description, while the novelty of the invention will be included in the claims succeeding said description.
Referring to said drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view oi an ordinary table converted for billiard playing.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a corner of the structure.
Fig. 8 is a like view where the corner of the table is equipped with a pocket.
Fig. 4c is a side elevation of the intermediate portion of the structure.
Fig. 5 is a like view equipped with a pocket.
Fig. 6 is a perspective View of a pocket.
Fig. 7 is a cross sectional view showing the clamping member.
Fig. 8 is a similar view with the side of the table moved away from the clamping member.
Fig. 9 is a cross sectional view of the structure arranged for playing pool.
Fig. 10 is a similar view.
Like characters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
As shown, the device includes in its construction two side rails, as 2 and 3,and end Serial No. 7,515.
rails as 4 and 5, the end portions of the respective rails being, when the device is used for billiards, in abutting relation, as represented in Figs. 1 and 2. There are attached to the rails the brackets, as 6, of right angle formation through the legs of which are perforations, as 7, to receive screws, as 8, and there being a pair of screws in association with each leg of the bracket 6. In Fig. 2 the brackets 6 are associated with the rails 2 and 5 to present a billiard table whereas the ends of the rails in Fig. 3 and in Figs. 1 and 5 for that matter, are shown as spaced apart in which position the relation of the screws 8 with the brackets are as shown in said Fig. 3 to hold the brackets securely inposition to provide an alley way between the mitered ends of the rails along which a ball can pass to enter the pocket 13 which is the same as the side pocket. The pockets consist o1 reticulated substance around the mouth end of which is a strip as 1 1, which has in it eyelets, as 15, to receive hooks 16 projecting from the rails at the outer end of the alley way 17' between the ends of the rails. it is a simple matter to either mount or dismount a pocket when the rails have been split or closed for that matter.
The end and side rails 2, 3, l and 5 are grooved to receive packings, as 18, by which the balls can be made to re-bound.
To removably hold the rails to the table 2, side and end brackets, as 19, may be provided, the brackets receiving the edge portions of the table and also receiving between them strips, as 18, which are attached to the under sides of the rails and which lie fiatwise on the top of the table. The under leg of each bracket 19 may have tapped through it a screw, as 20, to bind against the under side of the table 2, as shown in said Figs. 7 and 8. By running off or down the screw, the clamping member can be disengaged to free the rails.
What I claim is:
1. An attachment of the class described comprising detachably mounted side and end rails to rest on the table, the end and side rails having extensions to rest on the table, forked brackets to engage the extensions from the side rails and the side rails being dlvlded pockets having strips around their upper ends and hooks between the divisions of the end rails and between the side rails to ht in said openings.
In testlmony whereof I afiix my slgnature.
ALFRED E. BROWN.
