RUDOLPH r. LAMBERT, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RUDOLPH P, LAMBERT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of thecity of Ohi'cago, county of Cook,
and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Switches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in removable switches, and more particularly to switches for over-head 'trackways' in meat loading systems.
The-main object of my invention is to provide means for conveniently gulding the meat-laden hangers from the track extending laterally from a transport, as a refrigerator car or truck, on 'to the track extending longitudinally along the warehouse or docks,-and vice'versa;
Another object is to provide such a switch which is readily attachedto and detached from said tracks, and which is simple of construction and durable in use.
Other objects will-appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements-of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will behest understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, p I
Fig. 1 is an elevational view, showing my switch mounted inposition between the warehouse and the refrigerator car,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the switch and portions of the connected tracks,
Fig. 3 is a sectional side view, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a sectional end view,-taken on line 44: of Fig. 2.
In the drawing my invention is shown connected with the longitudinal track rail 6, supported by suitable brackets or hangers 7 along the side of a structure 8, as a warehouse or dock, and connected with the pivotal link 9 of the track rail 10, which extends laterally from a transport 11 as a refrigerator, car, a truck, or the like.
The switch 12 is made of steel, or other suitable metal, and is preferably constructed in one piece, and triangular in form. It is provided at one side with two depending flanges 13 and 14, adapted to engage the track rail 6 therebetween, as best shown in Fig. 4. Set screws 15 extend through one of said flanges and engage the track rail 6 to REMOVABLE SWITCH.

the track extending laterally from the transport.
'In the present form means is provided by extending the rail 19 from the switch in the shape of anarm 22 provided with a flattened or cut-out portion 23 at its free end to receive a similar flattened or cut-out portion on the pivoted link 9, and is provided with an opening for receiving abolt'24; supplied with a thumb nut '25, which affords convenient means for attaching and detaching the arm 22 of the switch to and from the link 9 of the transport, said link 9 being in turn pivoted, by a bolt 26, to the track rail 10, which extends laterally from the transport. The link thus forms a pivoted connection between the switch and the track rail on the transport, thereby taking care of any variation in the elevation of the track rail on the transport and on the building, due to varying loads on the transport, and so forth. Said link and track are more fully disclosed and claimed in my Patent No.
1,391,126, dated September 20th, 1921. The curved groove26 is provided inward-of the track 19 for the inner flange of the carrier roller28 mounted on thecarrier 29 used in supportin and conveying parts of meat 30 between the transport and the building, as shown in the drawing.
In this application I have shown my switch especially adapted to the form of track or loading system disclosed in my above identified patent, but this construction will, of course, be modified and adapted to be suitable to any form of track. It is also apparent that I have provided an inexpensive and convenient switch that may be speedily attached to and detached from either the transport or the building, or from both, and may be provided for each build ing or carried with each transport as desired. While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A suspension rail switch provided with means for removably clamping said switch to a suspended rail; means extending at right angles to said first means for removably connecting said switch to a second suspended rail; and a curved rail on said switch for operatively joining said two track rails.
2. Aswitch for over-head tracks, provided with a curved rail; means for engaging a track rail; means for removably clamping said engaging means on said rail; and means vertically adjustable for detachably securing said switch to a rail extending laterally toward said track rail. A
3. A switch for a single rail track, comprising a curved rail; flanges for engaging a track rail; threaded members for securing said flanges to said track rail; pins slidably mounted in said threaded members for operating the same; and means for securing said switch to a rail extending at right angles to said track rail.
, 4. A switch for over-head tracks, provided with a curved rail; said curved rail ending in an arm provided with a cut-out portion; means on said switch for engaging a track rail; means for removably clamping said means on said rail and a thumb screw for securing said portion to a similar portion of a rail extending at right angles to said track rail.
5. A switch for over-head tracks, pro vided with a curved rail, said curved rail ending at one end in a beveled toe and at the other end in an arm provided with a cut-out portion; means on said switch for engaging a track rail; means forremovably clamping said means on said rail; and means for detachably securing said switch to a rail extending laterally to said track rail.
6. A removable switch for a suspension railway comprising a curved rail on the switch; a curved groove at the side of said rail; a beveled toe at one end of said rail and resting on a track rail; a pair of flanges for embracing the sides of said track rail; means extending through one of said flanges for removably securing said switch to said track rail; an extension at the other end of said curved rail; and means for pivotally and removably connecting said extension to the pivoted link of a track rail extending at right angles to said'track rail.
7. The combination, with afixed suspended track, and a movable track provided with a pivoted link extending laterally from said suspended track, of a switch provided with a curved rail having a beveled toe resting on said suspended track, and an arm flattened to engage a flattened endof said movable track; manual means to removably i,
fasten said flattened ends together; and means for removably fastening said switch to said suspended track. a
8. The combination, with a longitudinal track and a track extending laterally there- 7 1 to, of a switch provided with a curved rail and a groove adjacent thereto,'a beveled toe on said curved rail to bear on said longitudinal track; anarm providedwith a cut-out portion at the opposite end of said curved rail, adapted to engage a similarly cut-out portion provided on the lateral track; manual means to removably fasten said cutout ends together, whether the longitudinal track and the lateral track are in alinement or not; and means for removably fastening said switch to said longitudinal track.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of
