AM P/IUTO-LITHDHRAPHIC an N. flassomvsls mums) UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIG'E.
GEORGE F. DAWSON, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN REVOLVING SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,895 dated July 15, 1873; application filed 1 June 14, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE FRANCIS DAW- SON, of the city and county of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Bracing and Re-enforcing the Legs of Revolving Chairs, Book- Oases, or other articles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figures 1 and 2 are vertical sections of a revolving chair; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view, partly in section.
The invention consists in a novel mode of bracing and re-enforcing the legs of revolving chairs, book-cases, or other articles, as hereinafter fully described and generally indicated in the summary.
In Fig. l of the drawing, A represents an ordinary revolving belt, which is threaded, and works in an internally-threaded tube, B. To this I add a top plate, b, with the downward flange b,that embraces the head 0 of legs 0, and fits into a circumjacent recess, 0. On the outside of the lower end of nut B I make a thread, and screw thereon a nut, D, between which and the head O is interposed a plate, d. This plate d may be secured to the head '0 by screws e, or it may have an tended simply to revolve, there is no necessity I for a thread on the bolt A, orin the tube B.
By my construction, a very simple and cheap device is obtained, and one in which the legs may be easily taken apart when desired, for repair, replacement, or transportation, while the connection possesses remarkable strength,
and gives great durability.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The legs 0 having heads 6 G U 0 combined with the plates b b and d, the endthreaded tube B, and the nut D, as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with tube B, threaded externally at the lower end of the plate (1, with or without a flange, d or 01 and held by a nut, D, as and for the purpose set forth.
GEO. FRS. DAWSON.
