This invention'relates to certain new and useful 'improvementsin trunks and'has particular reference to a trunk divided-into a 3 plurality of independent compartments with the compartn'ients accessible by independently operable lock controlled doors.

One of the objects oi theinv'ention resides in the provisioirot a trunk or :doi'iblewalled construction with a heat 'insul ating material placed between'the walls so that papers or other articles may beplaced within the compartments of the trunk *ithout any damage resulting thereto.

A further object of the invention embodies a. trunk containing a plurality of separate compartments with separate locking means for each compartment, the locking means-for one compartment only beingaccessible upon the operation of the locking means for one of the other compartments.

Vith the above and other'objects-in view, the invention consists in the novel term, combination and arrangementof parts hereinafter more fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout theseveral views.

The "front wall of the base section l is constructed to provide a receptacle compartment 13 extending longitudinally ofthe trunk and closed by the door 13.

To lock the cover section 2 in closed position shown in Figure 4, latch keepers depend from the lower edge of the forward end 2 and are engaged by permutation lock devices 22 supported on the -front wall of the base section 1, the cover and base section operating to form a relatively large main compartment 23. For transporting the trunk, the base section 1 is provided with belt handles 2 1.

In the use of the trunk, access to the compartments 6 and '7 is obtained by releasing the permutation lock 11 to permit the door 8 to move on the hinges 9, while access to the compartment 13 is obtained by releasing the hinged hasps l7 retained by the permutation locks 20, the locks 20 being accessible by moving the guard plates 21 on their pivotal mountings upon the cover section 2. it is necessary to open the door 13 to gain access to the permutation locks 22 for re leasing the cover section 2 thereby exposing the main trunk compartment 23. It will be noted that each of the compartments 6, 7, l3 and 23 are independently lock controlled and by the provision of permutation looks, different combinations may be provided for operating each door section. In

view of the various shapes of the compartments, papers or articles of various characters such as jewelry and clothing may be placed within the trunk and securely locked therein as wellas protected by the double all construction with the insulating packing material. a

\Vhile there is herein shown and described, the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be'made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the same as claimed.

lVhat is claimed as new is:

l. A trunk of the type described comprising a base section, a cover section hinged thereto, said sections being of double wall construction, an insulating packing between the walls thereof, compartments formed in the front wall of the base section, a lock controlled door controlling access thereto, a hinged door carried by the base section, said base section having a compartment positioned above the first named compartments accessible by opening the last named door and locking devices for the cover section positioned inwardly of the last named door.

2. A trunk of the type described comprising a base section, a cover section hinged thereto, said sections being of double wall construction, an insulating packing between the walls thereof, compartments formed in the front wall of the base section, a lock controlled door controlling access thereto, a hinged door carried by the base section, said base section having a compartment 'p0si-.

tioned above the first named compartments accessible by opening the last'named door and locking devices for the cover section positioned inwardly of the last named door, the locking devices for the second named door including swinging hasps carried thereby and permutation locks carried by the cover section cooperating therewith.

3. A trunk of the type described comprising a base section, a. cover section hinged thereto, said sections being of double wall construction, an insulating packing between the walls thereof, the front wall of the base section being divided into upper and lower compartments, independently operating lock controlled doors for the upper and lower compartments and locking devices for the cover confined by the upper door.

4. A trunk of the type described comprising a base section, a cover section hinged thereto, said sections being of double wall. construction, an insulating packing between the walls thereof, the front wall of the base section being divided into upper and lower compartments, independently operating lock controlled doors for theiupper and lower compartments and locking devices for the cover confined by the upper door, said upper door being of double wall construction, the front side of the cover section terminating inwardly of the front wall of the base section and a flange carried by the upper door overlying the adjacent edges of the cover section.

5. A trunk of the type described compris ing a base section, a cover section hinged thereto, said base section having a plurality of compartments formed in the front wall thereof, independent lock controlled doors for each compartment and locking means for the cover section accessible upon opening one of the door sections.
