BUTTON.
' Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patentgd Feb, 28
Application filed February 24, 1921. SerialNo. 447,529.-
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, NATHAN S. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
In the use of buttons of special design particularly buttons for uniforms bearing special insignia, it is important that they be attached to the garment so that they will he as fiat upon the surface of the garment as possible and also be maintained in fixed positions relative to the different parts of the garment so that the insignia will always stand in proper position and the buttons show neatly and smoothly upon the garment. The object of my invention is to provide a button which, when attached, will possess the advantages above referred to, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the underside of a button constructedin accordance with my said invention, and
Figure 2, a central section through the same. Y
The button itself is preferably of metal and consists of two plates 10 and 11 secured together at their edges by inter-engaging flanges, or in any approved manner. Plate 10 is the base plate carrying the shank 12, and plate 11 is the outer plate giving shape to the button and on which the design is formed. I
The button in the main is, or may be, of the special construction shown, or of any approved construction, the plate 11 being stamped out of metal of appropriate thickness and of any design which it maybe desired to imprint thereon.
points of the loops extending but slightly beyond the face of plate 10 as shown.
In attaching the button, the thread is passed through the eyes 14 of shank 12, thebutton being first appropriately positioned on the garment. The eyes 14 being a distance apart and separated by the bend in the wire of to hang or swing as when a protruding eye or shank is used, as in buttons of common construction.
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A button comprising a body and a shank consisting of a single wire located in i a depression on the body, said wire being substantially concealed in said depression and being bent in a plurality of downwardlyextending loops to form thread-holding means projecting but slightly beyond the level of the rim on the body of the button, substantially as set forth.
2. A button having a central depression in its underside, and having its underside concaved from the rim toward thedepression, a shank secured in said depression and substantially beneath the level of said rim, substantially as set forth.
3. A button formed with a central depression on its underside, a shank secured in said depression and formed of a wire looped or bent centrally to form separated thread-holding eyes, the points of said loops being positioned but slightly outside the inner face of the button, substantially as set forth. V
4. A button comprising stamped plates secured together, the inner plate having a central depression, a shank secured in said central depression and formed of wire looped to formthread-holding eyes separated one from another, said eyes being but slightly outside the inner face of the button, substantially as set forth.
5. A button comprising two pletesand a In'Witness whereof, I hate hereunto set 10 shank, the inner plate being concaved and my hand and seal at New York, New York the outer plate formed to show the design of this 19th day of February, A. D. nineteen the bulttgn, said innerplate also hivirif; a hundred and twenty-one.
5 centre earession in which said s an is H mounted, s aid concaved formation and said NATHAN MEYER depression substantially concealing the V Witnesses: shank, and the shank being secured'in place RUTH J. HANSMAN, by fusible metal, substantially as set forth. I JEROME M. HAMBURGER.
