Application ined :ruiy fs, 191s, seriai No. 243,960.
i To all whom z't may concern:
i new and useful Improvements in lVindow posed 'building pended claims, 35.v
from the present disclosure as come within the E rames, of. which the following is a Specifica tion.
This invention relates to building construction and more particularly to window frames. I One oi the-objects ot this invention resides in the provision of a box frame type and of such construction that thevplastic coating on the exterior of va. building will have those edges thereofwhich contact with the window frame dis- Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a window frame of such construction that the stucco surface on a will be keyed where it terminates around awindow.
^ Astill further o'bject'of this invention re- .sides in the provision of a'window frame of such construction that it forms a. groundfor the plasterandalso the j amb block itor Vthe casing.
With these 'and otherv objects in view, `this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts to be more particularly set forth in the specification herewith and it 4being understood that the rightzis reserved to make such departures the scopo-of the claims.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 1s an exterior view of a portion of a building showing a window frame .of presentconstruction in a fixed position; igure 2 isan .enlarged sectional view on line 2-2 of Figure l with the central' portion ofthe window brokenaway; Figure 3 is va horizontal sectional view of one side of the window.
in the present embodiment of this invention the letter Brepresents a portion of a building which is preferably coated with a stucco iinish S. In constructing buildings ofthe above character, the revious method of applying the stucco inis tothe surface surrounding windows and doors has proven unsatisfactory for the stucco nish would Specification of Letters Patent.

peel off where it contacted with the window frame and eventually cause the entire `sur` face to release .its hold on the wall. So in order to eliminate lthese disadvantagesand maintain a permanently secured finish, the window frame,wh1ch 1s ofthe box frame type,
and which is adapted for u se in brick, con! crete or stone walls, is provided with inner jamb sections F, outer jamb vsections 7 vdisy posed parallel therewith, and outer `sections 6 which respectively connect the adjacent jamb sections F and 6 preferably have ltheir outer edges abutting against the inner sides respectively ofthe adjacent sections 7, and the outer sides of the sections 6 extend outwardly respectively beyond the outer edges of the adjacent sec- 7. The outer sections Y tions7, thus providing grooves 5 along theA From the foregoing it will l'be understood that, as the ,outer ledges of the sections 6 outer jamb sections Y channels will be formed by the wall with the sections 6 and 7 the frame adapted to receive the-edges of-a sheet of plastic wall covering, such as stucco and plaster.
In order to avoid a similar of the section 7 of the window `frame is extended peeling action at the corner edges of plaster P adjacent the window, the
outer side and top corner edges of the box adjacent edges .of the -Y 7, as'does the wall B,-
inwardly approximately the thickness of the f plaster and the .interior trim 8 is secured to said section 7 in such manner that the plaster will terminate behind the interior trim where it is protected `by the overlapping edge E of said interior trim.
In view of having successfully producedia window frame'for preventing the-peeling action of the stucco iinish and plaster that abuts the window frame, it is apparent that door frames or the like can be so employed for similar purposes and it is desired to herein disclose the intention of such adaptation should circumstances arise where its necessity occurred. j
By providinga box frame of 'the' kind described with the grooves l5 at the .outer vertical and top corners of the box frame, the frame maybe inserted in the opening in the wall after the stone,
has finished and the wal-l has been laid.
YW ith the ordinary construction of gozo brick or concrete work frame, the frame must be set and the Wall built to it in order toget a tight Ajoint at the top and sides.
After the wall .has been laid and the openings provided therein for the doors and Windows, my improved box frame with the inner casing sections 8 detached therefrom is set in the Wall with the outer jamb sections 7 projecting inwardly beyond the Wall an amount corresponding to the thickness of the plaster. The frame' is held in position in any desired manner. The stucco finish S is then applied to the outer side of the Wall and fills the grooves 5- at the outer corners of the frame, as shown in Figs. 2- and 3. Tight joints are thus afforded at the. outer corners of the sides and top of the box frame.
The plastering P is then applied to the inner side of the wall and against the jamb sections 7 after which the inner casing sections 8'are applied in the usual manner so as to extend over the plaster.
The box frame provides the usual runway for the sash Weights, as shown in Fig. 3, the outer jamb sections 7 dispensing with the employment of the usual jamb blocks.
Vith this invention fully set forth it is manifest that a window frame is produced which will be cheap of manufacture and readily adapted to perform the functions i11- tended.
4 Having thus described this invention what Y arranged/to form with the Wall and the4 jamb section a channel adapted to receive the edge of a sheet of plastic'wall covering, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a wall having an opening, of abox frame mounted therein comprising inner jamb sections and outer jamb sections and sections connecting the jamb sections respectively land arranged to form with the outer jamb section and the wall channels adapted to receive the edges of a sheet of plastic Wall covering, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination With a Wall having an opening, of a frame mounted in said opening and having a jamb section and having a section abutting at one edge against the jamb section, said edge projecting beyond the adjacent edge of the jamb section and forming with the j amb section and the Wall a channel adapted to receive the edge of a sheet of plastic Wall covering, substantially as set forth. p
In testimony whereof I aihx my signature.
