m n CHINE AND Dies! .11'
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CECIL WiLLIAM SCOTT, of 24 Gladstone Park Gardens, Dollis Hill, Cricklewood, in the county of Middlesex, England, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Button-Mold Machines and Dies, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to button mold machines and dies.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved machine and dies. A machine made in accordance with this invention comprises a bed plate, a pressure bar adapted to travel in guides on the bed plate, a ram, cam or toggle lever over the pressure bar, and a gap in the bed plate to allow the dies to take up a central position under the pressure bar.
The dies may be made of machined metal as hitherto or they may be sheetor tube metal.
Referring to the drawings filed herewith Fig. 1 is an elevation of one form of machine made in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation;
Fig. 3 is a plan of the pressure bar;
Fig. 4 is a cross section of the dies adapted to form covered or moldedbuttons;
Fig. 5 is an elevation of a machine with a toggle motion.
a is the bed plate formed with flanges b and 0 by which the plate can be secured to a table, bracket wall, sewing machine or other place, (23 is a front plate, 6 e e. are rivets and f distance pieces by which the front plate is secured to the bed plate, 9 and h are holes in the front and back plates to allow the dies to lie centrally of the machine. Between the plates at and d is mounted a cam 7' provided with a handle 70. The ca'm may be formed of sheet metal folded over. A pressure bar m is mounted between the plates, and a spring 71. tends to return the bar to its operative position. The die consists of four parts, namely, the casing 0, the bevel or closer p, the tube q and the former r. The former 1- is placed in the casing 0. The material of which the button is to be covered is placed over the casing; the shell of the button is placed over the material and ressed by the operator on to the former.
e back of the button is placed in the bevel 1 V Specification of Letters latena pressure bar.
With a machine made in accordance with this invention the bed plate is a very light construction and can be fastened to atable, I sewing machine, bracket or the like and is;
and pressed up against the tube; the bevel and tube are then placed in the casing and the die as a whole is placed in the machine. After pressure has been applied to the die the parts of the button are pressed together in the well-known manner and removed from the die.
The gaps formed in the bed plate permit the dies-to'rest on the metal of the plate so that the pressure is exerted in the line of the plate, permitting a light construction from stamped metal;
In Fig. 5 the lever 2 is pivoted at 3 to the Patented, Feb, 21,1922.
Application filed August 20, 1920. Serial No. 404,762. v
plate a' and the lever 4 is pivoted at 5 to a lever. 6 which is pivoted to theplate a at 7 adapted for use by dressmakers and others who require to make buttons covered with cloth, silk or-like' material to suit any particular garment.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:- e
1. A button molding machine comprising a fixed bed plate, a second fixed plate adjaand 2 bear on the cent and parallel with the bed plate, said plates having apertures therein adapted to receive a four-part die, a four-part die adapted to lie in said apertures and extend laterally on each side of said plates,anda lever disposed between said plates adapted. and operated to press together the parts of the die containing the shell and back of the button. Y
2. A button molding machine, comprising a bed plate, a second plate adjacent and parallel with thebed plate, said plates being provided with apertures, a four-part die adapted to lie in said apertures, a pressure bar mounted between the plates and above the dies, a spring disposed between said plates and adapted to move the pressure bar off the dies when the pressure has been removed, and, a lever mounted between the said plates adapted when operated to apply pressure to the pressure bar.
3. A button molding machine, comprising a bed plate,.a second plate adjacent and par- 5 adapted to lie in said apertures, a pressure bar mounted between the plates and above oil the dies when the pressure has been removed, and a lever mounted between the said plates adapted when operated to apply reozoee pressure to the pressure bar, said bed plate beingprovidecl with flanges and said lever being rovidedwvith-u cam adapted to bear 10 ion the pressure bar.
In" testimon whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
