IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVE-FASTENINGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,6] 3, dated July 8, 1873; application filed June 7, 1873.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, H. I. CARVER, ot Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Glove-Fastening, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents afront view of my glove-fastening as attached to a glove; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section of the same on the line 0 c, Fig. 1, clasped to connect the parts of the glove. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on the line 00 as, Fig. 2.

The object of my invention is to produce a fastening for kid and other gloves, by which the same may be closed tightly and securely on the hands, being neat and durable, and avoiding thereby the annoyance arising from the insufficient devices hitherto used.

Almost all glove-fastenings are unsatisfactory, as they do not hold the glove securely when stretched, or break soon by use, or become otherwise unserviceable.

My invention is intended to overcome these objections; and consists of a pin supported firmly by the projecting parts of a plate at tached to one side of the glove, which catches between coiled parallel sprin gs of a plate attached to the other side of the glove, so that they, in combination with the action of the supporting side plate of the pin on the ends of the springs, firmly hold the parts together, their connection being the more intimate the greater the strain thereon.

In the drawing, A represents the plate at one part of the glove; B, that of the other part of the glove, which may be made of German silver, steel, or other suitable material. Plate A is provided at one end with holes or slots a, by which the same is attached to the glove in the usual manner. The other part of plate A is bent under suitable angles, abutting in such a manner as to close over plate B forming a shield-like cover thereof. The inclined part b of plate A may preferably be bent under an angle of forty-five degrees toward the top part of plate A; the face part I) under a right angle or, better, with a slight inward inclination, so as to increase its resistance, as indicated in Fig. 2. Parts b I) carry longitudinally the pin (1, which is firmly connected to them in suitable manner. One end of pin (1 projects a little beyond face part b so that thereby a catch is given to the finger for disconnecting the parts of the fastening. Plate B is bent up at the sides to form two coiled springs, 0, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fastening and pin d. It is attached to the glove by central holes a; The plates A and B are connected by bringing plate A over B, and pressing pin (1 between the springs e, which slightly spread, admit pin (1, and close over the same. The face part b of plate A bears their against the ends of springs e and-plate A, and holds the glove tightly together.

For opening the glove the finger or nail is brought to catch the projecting end of pin d,

which is lifted upward, so that the springs e release their hold and produce the disconnection of plates A B.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The glove-fastening, consisting of pinplate A, in connection with coiled springplate B, substantially as' and for the purpose described.

2. The plate A having abutting parts I) I), which carry longitudinally pin d, as set forth.

3. The plate B with parallel coiled springs e, for the purpose described.
