Description
M. .I. CLAPPER.
} Wash-Boiiers. No. 140,470, Patenfedjulyhi873m AM. PHOTHITHMRAPH/s ca M (assonue PROCESS) UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
MICHAEL J. CLAPPER, OF HOLLAND, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,470, dated July 1, 1873 5 application filed April 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL J. CLAPPER, of the town of Holland, county of Ottawa and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Nash-Boilers; and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
This invention consists of a boiler with double ends B B open at the bottom, with slots 0 0 near the top. A perforated conductor, D, running from end to end of the boiler with open ends corresponding with slots 0 G, by means of which the water when boiling, is forced up through the openings B B along the conductorD, and through the cloth es to the bottom, as shown by the darts in Fig. 1. There is also a grate, A, which prevents the clothes from packing at the bottom of the boiler.
Figure 1, in the accompanying drawings, is a transverse section of the boiler when in use,
showing its connection of parts. A, the grate; B B, the open ends; 0 G, the slots; D, the perforated con dnctor, the darts show the course of the water; E, the handle. Fig. 2 shows the perforated conductor, side, bottom, and end. Fig. 3 shows the top View of boiler ready for use. Fig. 4 shows the grate A, top View. Fig. 5 shows an inside view of end of boiler with slot 0.
The advantages are that this boiler has a constant stream of water passing through the clothes, as shown by the darts in Fig. 1, washing out the dirt, and saving time and labor. A few moments boiling is suificient.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A wash-boiler with a grate, A, near the bottom, double ends B Bwith slots 0 0, a perforated conductor, D, arranged substan tially as described.
