Description
1. BEIERS DORF.
Sofa Badsteads.
No 140,453 Patent edJu|y1,1873.
AM PIIOTO-UTHDGRAPHIC ca Mn'ossama's P9005612) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JACOB BEIERSDORF, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOFA-BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,453, dated July 1, 1373; application filed May 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JACOB BEIERSDORF, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bed-Lounges; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a sectional perspective view of an ordinary bed-lounge frame folder], with my pillow-frame inclosed between the sections. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lounge extended to form a bed, with my pillow frame inserted in the sockets provided to receive it.
Like letters refer to like parts in the several figures.
This invention consists in a frame of peculiar construction having afoldin g pillowguard which is combined with a folding bedstead, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Arepresents the stationary section, and A the folding section, of an ordinary bed-lounge. To the outer edge of the frame of each section, near the foot, I secure a lug, a, having two sockets inclined at varying angles. B is a light frame, Whose end bars are slightly curved and adapted to enter the sockets in the lugs a. This frame maybe covered with any suitable material, on which the pillows are laid, and are supported at the required elevation ElbOWi the horizontal plane, the occupants of the bed lying with their heads toward the foot of the lounge. To prevent the pillows from moving up the upper edge of the frame has a narrow folding frame, I), hinged to it, which may be opened out to project over the top of the pillows. When not in use the frame I) is folded up fiat against the main frame B. Before folding up the lounge the frame B is withdrawn from its sockets and laid on top of the stationary section, when the section A, being folded over it, hides it from view.
l/Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is--- The frame B provided with the folding pillow-guard b, in combination with the hinged folding sofa-bedstead, as described.
J AOOB BEIERSDOBF.
