WATCH CASING.
- Application filedSeptember 16, real. iSeria]. n. 501,137.
Toall whom it may, concern it known that I, SI ON BRUNER, a
citizen of the U nitedisl ates, ,and a resident of the city otNew York, borough of Manhattan, inv ;the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Watch Casing, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a watch casing.
The general object, of this invention is to provide a watch casing in which the movement holder is enclosed and which has means in conjunction with the movement holder for co-operating with the covers of the easing to hold the movement holder centrally spaced with respect to the covers when they are opened, and means in conjunction with the movement holder to assist in the opening of the casing.
- This object is accomplished by providing a movement holder having a projection extending lengthwise of each end and hinging the covers to one end of the movement holder, one cover being on each side of the projection integral with that end of the movement holder.
This and other objects of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.
Figurel is a top plan view of the casing;
Figure 2 is an elevation of the bottom edge of the casing;
Figure 3 is a cross section along the line 33, Figure 1;
Figure 4 is an end elevation showing the covers hinged to the movement holder;
Figure 5 is an end elevation showing the opening means; and V Figure 6 is a view showing the casing open with the movement holder spaced centrally from the covers.
Referring to the above-mentioned drawings, a movement holder 10 is provided with projections 11 and 12 which extend lengthwise of each end. Hinged to one endof this movement holder 10 are two covers '13 and 1 1. one cover being hinged on each side of the projection 12. The cover 14 has its central portion cut away so that a transparent crystal may be mounted therein in order that the dial of the watch may be observed.
The movement holder 10 is for containing the watch movement. The covers 13 and 14 are of such a size and so shaped that they enclose the movement holder 10. When the casing is open thecovers 13 and 14 co-oper- ,ate with the projection 12 to space centrally thegnovement,holder 10. between the covers. This is of a decided advantage when it is desired to adjust or to do any work upon the movement.
The projection 11 which is integral with the movement holder 10 extends beyond the cover members 13 and 14 and serves as a means to assist in opening the watch casing. An opening 15 is cut in the upper wall of the movement holder so that the shaft which is used for winding may project theret-hrough and have a means for winding the stem attached thereto. Loops 16 and 17 are fixed to one of the covers and serve as a means for attaching the watch casing to a band or the like that may be used for carrying the watch.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example is a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
laims. V 1. As a new article of manufacture, a
watch casing comprising a movement holder having a projection integral with each end, two cover members hinged to one end of the movement holder, said projection being located between said hinges so that the movement holder is held spaced from each cover member when; they are open, and means in conjunction with one cover member for attaching it to a wrist band.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a watch casing comprising a movement holder having a wedge-shaped projection integral with each end, a pair of cover members shaped to enclose the movement holder hinged to one end of it, one of said movement holder projections'serving to co-operate with the cover members to keep the movement holder centrally spaced between the covers when they are open, the other serving as a means for opening the casing, and means fixed to one of the cover members for attaching it to a band.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a watch casing comprising a movement holder having an arch-shaped projection integral with each end, a pair of cover members hinged to the movement holder, one on each side of the lower projection and so spaced therefrom that as the covers are opened they co-operate with the projection to keep the movement holder centrally spaced. v
4. As a new article of manufacture, a watch casing comprising a movement holder,
a two-piece cover hinged to said movement holder, and a projection on-the lower end or" the movement holder engaging the cover sections hinged on each side of the said proje c'tio'n when the latter are-in extre'meopen position whereby the movement holder is held in spacedrelation from' both cover sections;
5. As a new article of manufacture, a watch casing compris ng a movement holder, a two-piece cover hinged to said movement holder, a projection on the movement holder extending between the hinge sections, said projection engaging the cover sections when the latter are in equal open positions whereby the movement holder is held in spaced relation from both cover sections, and an
