Ee it known that RICHARD J. WYNKoor, a citizen ofthe United States and resident of Bridgeport in the county of Fairfield State of (ionnecticut, has invented certain'new and useful improvements in hotographic--irinting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
object of, this invention is to pro-vide a photographic printing machine with an automatic paper feeding mechanism of such construction that by a singie operation the proper amount ci paper can be brought into position over the nefative und the same clamped properly in place. l
Other objects consist in the provision of means for .recording the printing operation and setting the recording device so that an alarm is sounded for signaling the operator when the desired number oi prints have been made. Still another object is to provide an arrangement whereby the lamps will be iliuminated at the proper time by the movement of the automatic paper feeding mechanism.
More specifically this invention consists in ijiroviding a light hor: construction for the reception of a negative and a negative retaining mechanism, and means for feeding the print paper into position on the negative, the paper feeding mechanism being adapted to operate the iliuminating means and when in normal position to engage and loci; the @ad over the print paper and negative. The free end of this frame 12 is provided with hooks 15-15 formed integral thereto and projecting dowrm/ardly and inwardly for engagement with the rod 16 which is mounted similarly to the pintie 13 but on the opposite side of the'table. Another clamping frame i8 formed of a single piece of wire is mounted on the said pint-lc 13 and adapted to swing in substantially the same pla-ne as the said 4clamp 12. This latter clamp is also provided with a hook 19 for engagement with the rod 16.
For carryingthe paper which is usually in roll form I have provided a receptacle Z0 having a suitable hinged cover 2l. A slot 1s formed in this receptacle as shown at 22 by cutting away a portion of one of the edges of the cover 21 and through which the paper 23 is adapted to pass. In connection with this device there isalso arranged an indicator 24 and an alarm 25 for indicating and 1l having an opennotifying;r the operator ofr'the nuinber of' l roi registering mechanism within the box 24* 'which in turn operates the hammer 25L to strike the bell 25 when a certain number of prints are made. i
Arranged along the edges of one endvofv 'thereby in a .way to the table and extending approximately the 'light'opening are the guide members 2o and 27 under which the slide 45 of the aforesaid paper feeding` mechanism is adapted to travel. It will be seen that the guide member 27 is provided with aseries of notches 28 in which the stop 29 engages. This stop 29 is'loosely mounted and adapted tobe adjusted longitudinally on the'bar 30 t o engage the respective notches. Particular` attention is called to the fact that the end ot the stop member 29 projects through the.pa rticular notch in which itmay be seated and lnto the path of the feed slide 45 so as to be engaged limit the paper feeding movements.
The pad 31 may be of' conventional'construction and is resiliently connected to the operating member 32 by the springs 33. This member 32 which carries thepad is ot suitable rectangular form and may be ot Y any vdesired material, being provided with the handle 34' for convenient man" ulatipn. The pivot or hinge pointv is :formed at the apex of the angle formed by these bars 35 and `36 and thel pintles represented by the Vscrews 39 are mounted in the brackets 40, the latter being suitably secured to the table.

These arms have flanges 46"*adapted 'for engagement With the outer edge of the-said links whereby the forward movement of the latter will cause an oscillatory movement of the said rocker shaft 43 and the' said'iixed arms 46. This oscillatory movement causes the gripping action of the engaging member 48 which' is secured to the transverse rocker shaft 43 by means of the screw 47. The face of this engaging member 48 vcan be serrated as shown and is adapted for clamping the paper against the upper face of the plate 45. Secured to the paper engaging member 48 is the catch 49 for engagement with the bolt 50 having a projecting finger piece carried by the member 32, which carries the pad.

After a proper time has elapsed the pad l and operating member are raised b first gripping the handle 34 drawing vthe bolt 50 and then lifting the operating member which by means of the connections shown causes thepaper gripping member 48 to swing downwardly to grip the paper against the plate 45. With the movement of this gripping member the entire paper mechanlsm moves along the tracks provided until the edge of the plate 45 engages the end of the adjustable stop 29 which projects' through one of the notches formed in lthe track 27. It will be obvious that this will accordingl carry the paper forward a predeterminel distance which is regulatedby the adjustment of the stop 29. means for'retaining a negative in position over said light transmitting opening, a pad and operating member therefor, tracks arranged on said table, paper feeding mecha-` nism' traveling on said tracks, gripping means carried by said paper feedin mechanism, and locking means connecte -to said .paper gripping mechanism for locking said lpad and operating member in position.

In a photographic printing machine comprising a. light box having a light transmitting opening, means for retaining a negative over said opening, a pad and operating member, means for feeding paper into position over said negative, angular pivoted supports for said operating member, links connecting said pivoted supports to said paper feeding mechanism, means for regulating the movement of said paper feeding mechanism, and means carried by said paper feeding mechanismA for locking the pad.

A photographic printing machine comprising a light box having a light transmitting opening, means for retaining a negative over said opening, a swinging pad, paper feeding mechanism operated by the movement of the pad, paper. gripping mechanism carried by said paper feeding mechanism comprising an oscillating grip, and a latch for engaging theV said paper gripping mechanism.

A photographic printing machine comprising a light box having a light transmitting opening, means for retaining a nefative over said opening, a pad and operating member therefor, means foi` feeding paper into position over said negative, a plurality of curved links connecting said operating member and said paper feeding means, an oscillating shaft carrying paper gripping mechanism arranged for engagement with said links, and an adjustable stop for regulating the movement of said paper feeding mechanism. l
