Be it known that I, ROBERT DEMAS MON- INGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Washington, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photographic-Printing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in photographic printing apparatus.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved photographic printing apparatus of simple and durable construction, reliable in operation and adjustable to the convenience of the operator and which may be efficiently operated with the exercise of minimum skill 011 the part of the operator.
Other objects and advantages of the invention reside in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, and in which:

Referring to the drawings, it will be seen my invention contemplates a table 10 which is supported upon suitable legs 11 braced by cross rails 12. The table is provided with a tiltable section 13, pivoted to the the table at 14 to swing vertically whereby the inclination of the tiltable section with respect to the table may be varied as desired. The tiltable section is provided with depending side and end walls 15 and 16 respectively, and these walls together with the bottom wall 17 define a light chamber. The upper surface of the tiltable section contiguous with the light chamber is provided with an opening 18. The outer surface of the side walls 15 of the tiltable section are provided with a plurality of vertically spaced slots 19 with which a disk 20 eocentrically pivoted as at 21, to the table 10 is adapted to selectively cooperate to thereby retain the tiltable section in adjusted position with respect to the table. It is to be understood that one of such eccentrically pivoted disks cooperates with each side 'of the tiltable section.
A transparent support for the paper and negatives is provided and consists of a sheet of glass 22 which is seated in the tiltable section and arranged to completely cover the opening 18 of the lightt chamber. The top surface of the glass is coplaner with the tiltable section.
A presser, indicated generally at 23, is adapted to coact with the transparent support to properly spread the paper and the negatives thereon to press them firmly thereagainst and provide an opaque backing during the printing operation. The presser is constrained to partake of reciprocatory motion across the transparent support and cannot partake of any other except this rectilinear motion although urged into proper contact with the support. This presser com prises a pair of spaced rollers 23 between which is arranged a presser block 24 which is maintained in desired relation with respect to said rollers by means of four small presser block and which are provided with suitable bearings 27 for rotatably receiving the pintlcs 52h ol" the rollers 223. The resilient securing means including the spring 33 tends to draw the band tightly around the rollers and contact block at all times and in all positions although the contact blocks and rollers are treely movable relative to the flexible band.
Means are provided for reciprocating the presser across the transparent support in any position to which the tiltable section may be adjusted. In operation the paper and i'iegatives are placed by the operator upon the tl'llllSPfllGllt support and the treadles 36 are then depressed. This moves the presser rectilin early from the position shown in l igurc 4i: through the position shown in Figure 4") to the position shown in Figure (3. in its initial. movement the presser engages the paper and negatives and retains them in their proper position. as is indicated in lligure 5 so that any possibility of their being displaced therefrom on the transparmit sup port is precluded. When the presser has been moved to the extended position shown in l ie'urc (3, the circuit closer has been eug'aged and closed by the in'csscr bar 43 and the electric light 50 is energized to e'llect the printing. An important feature of the present in vention resides in the feature of adjustment of the tilting section which may be inclined to suit the convenience ol the operator or the exigencies of the working conditions and in the automatic adaptation of the presser and its actuating and retracting means to the adjustment of the tiltable section, it being noted in this respect that the link 4-2 while permitting'the movement and accommodating the adjustment of the tiltable section is acted upon by the spring 45 to urge the presser into proper contact with the transparent support oi the tilting section at all times. Again the presser does not partake of any pivotal or swinging motion but is constrained to reciprocate across the transparent support. This movement of the presser serves to prevent displacement of the paper and negatives as they are engaged by the presser in its initial movement and held thereby throughout the operation.
If the identification means shown in Figures 1, 2 and 13 is employed, the tape having been fed to proper position so that the de sired identification indicia is registered with the aperture 62 of the opaque plate, the operation herein-above described may be car ried out so that the negative and the identification indicia are both printed upon the paper.
As clearly shown in Figures 2 and 12, the upper surface of the tiltable section is provided with spaced transverse semi-circular grooves or depressions 64 and 65, respectively, which are adapted to receive the end rollers oi the presser when the same is in extended position.
Having thus described my invention, I'
claim:
1. In a photograhic printing apparatus of the character described, a transparent support, a presser coasting with said support and constrained to reciprocatory movement thereacross and consisting of a pair of spaced rollers, a presser block arranged between said rollers and a flexible band having its ends secured and extending around said rollers and said block and relatively movable with respect thereto, means for reciprocating said presser across said transparent support including a bell-crank lever having a yoke end and a link pivotally connecting each arm of said yoked end to the presser, and a spring for each link connection, each of said springs having one end secured to said lever and the other end secured to said link whereby said presser is urged into contact with said support in. all positions. 7
2. In a photographic printing apparatus of the character described, a transparent support, a presser coacting with said support and constrained to reciprocatory movement thereacross and consisting of a pair of spaced rollers, a presser block arranged between said rollers and a flexible band having its ends secured and extending around said rollers and said block and relatively moi (able with respect thereto, means for reciprocating said presser across said transparent support including a bell-crank lever having a yoke end and a link pivotally connecting each arm of said yoked end to the presser.
3. In a photographic printing apparatus f the character set forth, a table having a tiltable section and means for maintaining said tiltable section at the desired inclination with respect to said table, atransparent support carried by said tiltable section, presser coacting with said transparent support and including a pair of spaced rollers, a presser block arranged between said rollers, and a flexible band having the ends secured and extending around said roller and said block and relatively movable with respect thereto, and means for reciprocating said presser across said transparent support.
4. In a photographic printing apparatus of the character described, a table having a tiltable section, a transparent support carried by said tiltable section, a presser coacting with said support and reciprocable thereacross, and means for reciprocating said presser including a lever, and a link connecting one arm of said lever with said presser.
5. In a photographic printing apparatus of the character described, a table having a tiltable section, a transparent support carried by said tiltable section, a presser coacting with said support and reciprocable thereacross, means for reciprocating said presser including a lever, a link connecting one arm of said lever with said presser, and a spring having one end secured to said lever and the other end secured to said link whereby said presser is urged into contact with said sup port in all positions.
6. In a photographic printing apparatus of the character described, a table having a tiltable section provided with a plurality of vertically spaced slots, and means for maintaining said tiltable section at the desired in clination with respect to said table including a disk eccentrically pivoted to said table and selectively engageable with the slots of said tiltable section, a transparent support carried by said tiltable section and a presser coacting with said transparent support.
7. In a photographic printing apparatus of the character described, a table having a tiltable section, a light chamber carried by said tiltable section having an opening in its upper end, a transparent support carried by the tiltable section and extending over the opening of said light chamber, an electric light in said light chamber, means for energizing said electric light including a normally open circuit closer, a presser coacting with said support and reciprocable thereacross, and means for reciprocating said presser including a lever having a yoked end and a link connecting each arm of said yoked the tiltable section and extending over the opening of said light chamber, an electric light in said light chamber, means for encrgizing said electric light including a ner nally opened circuit closer, a prcsser coactmg with said support, and means for actuatl5 ing said prcsser and for actuating said circuit closer in one position of said presser.
