Description
L. SPIRO. INVISIBLE LOCK FOR METAL BEDS.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 20, 1921.
Patented Jan. W, 19220 LIE-(3N SPIRO. EVERETT, 'WASl-IENGTON.
INY 'ISIBLE LOCK 39K l/LETA'JL Application filed April 20, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, LEON SPIRO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Everett, in the county of Snohomish and State of \Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Invisible Looks for Metal Beds, oi which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an r metal beds, and the object of the inve tion is the construction of the legs of a bed or couch, or the like, which embody means for efiiciently locking the side irons or rails of a bed to the leg or leg structure.
With this and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements parts as will be hereinafter described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
invisible lock Figure 1 is a view partly in elevation and partl in section of a leg structure corn struc ed in accordance with the present invention, while Figure 2 is a section taken on line 2-42,
Figure 3 is a View, in elevation, of the cur:- iliary section of the leg structure.
Figure l is a fragmentary, perspective view of one of the angle irons or rails metal bed.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary View, in eleven tion, of an embodiment of the primary section of the leg structure, while Figure 6 is a fragmentary, perspect view of another embodiment of the iron or rail of a metal bed.
Referring to the drawi gs by numerals, 1 designates the primary hol ow sect-ion leg structure, it being understood that in the construction of a bed or couch, or e like, there are four leg structures used b i only necessary to illustrate desc ibe orstrnctu? as all used in the constructio of a bed are duplicates. ltotatably mounted within the primary section 1 is an at'ni section 2; the an iliary section 52, like primary section l, is hollow and preferaoiy cylindrical in s (Fig. 2}. On the lower end of the auxiliary section 2 is an ornamental flange 3, against which the lower end of the primary section 1 rests. gripping Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Plan. it %2.
Serial 1%0. 62,880.
The primary section 1 is provided with a vert'ically-extcnding slot 5, which is sufficiently wide to allow the catch 6 on the angle iron or rail 7 to enter the primary section, and extend through the tapering opening 8 formed in the side of the auxiliary section 2; this opening 8 registers with the vertical slot The bottom edge 9 of the opening 8 is on the same horizontal plane with the lower end 01": the slot 5 so that the lower edge of the catch 6 rests on the lower edges or bottoms of the slot and the opening 8, Fig. 1. The top or upper end 10 of the opening 8 (Fig. 3) is inclined from one side to the other side of the opening, so that the catch 6 can enter the highest end of the opening 8 and, then, by turning the auxiliary section 2, the upper edge 10 of the opening will ride through the slot 10 of the angle rail 7 until the lowest portion of the upper edge 10 of opening 8 is resting snugly in the slot 10, as seen in Fig. 1, thereby securing and fastening the angle iron 7 against displacement oil" the primary and auxiliary sections 1 and 2, respectively.
ln'the embodiment shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the same principal is involved except that the primary section 1 is provided with a pair of slots 5*, and the rail 7* is provided with pair of catches 6, adapted to enter slots 5 and be secured therein by an auxiliary section 2, as hereinbefore described.
While I have described the preferred em bodiments oi? my invention, and have illus trated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture o1 the same, and, I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a primary hollow section, an curriliary hollow section within the primary hollow section and supporting the same, said y auxiliary sections provided h registering slots or openings, and a rail provided with a catch adapted to enter registering slots or openings and be locked upon said sections when the auxiliary section is slightly rotated within and independently of the primary section.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of an auxiliary section provided at its lower end with a flange, said auxiliary section having a large opening formed in its side, said opening having a horizontal straight lower edge and an inclined upper edge producing a wide end and a narrow end of said opening, a primary section over said auxiliary section and resting at its lower end upon said flange, said primary section provided with a vertically-extending slot registering with the opening of said auxiliary section, a rail provided with a catch, and a slot on the rail between the rail and the catch, said catch adapted to extend through the slot of the primary section and through the opening of the auxil- I iary section and rest upon the bottom edges 7 signature.
