Description
. UNITED STATES @PATENT OFFICE;
FRED WESLRYCOOIQOF NORTH CHICAGO, ILLINOIsAssIeNOR To CHICAGO HARD- WARE FOUNDRY COMPANY, or NORTH CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION or ILLINOIS.
TABLE 0R STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 31, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it lmown that I, FRED WESLEY COOK, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of North Chicago, in the county of Lake, State of Illinois, have invented Certain new and useful Improvements in Tables or Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for attaching together the end standards or legs and the intermediate horizontal connecting brace of tables and like support, and has for its object:
To provide a simple, durable and substantion structural formation and combination of parts whereby a connection in a strong and effective manner is attained between the brace and the legs, and with which the fastening devices are concealed from view and a smooth surface appearance of the parts at the points of juncture is attained, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1, is a perspective view of a lunch room table illustrating the general arrangement of parts in the present invention. a
Fig. 2, is an enlarged detail vertical section on line 2 2, Fig. 3, of the present connecting means.
Fig. 3, is a detail horizontal section On line 3 3 Fig. 1.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts in the dierent views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the usual rectangular upper frame of a table or stand upon which the table top 2 is supported.
3, 3 designate pairs of end legs, preferably of a curved form and having adjacent relation at their mid-height as shown in Fig. 1, and with each leg of a V form in crosssection as illustrated in Fig. 3.
4, designates a Yhorizontal tie member arranged midway the height of the legs?? and preferably of a channel shape in cross-section and formed with expanded end portions 4 formed with orifices in their vertical walls for the passage Of attaching lu s of the legs, and for the shank of the attac ing bolts of the present construction more to be described.
5 designates counterpart orificed lugs formed as integral parts of the vle s 3 and projecting inwardly therefrom. aid lugs are adapted to project one past the other in an assembled condition of the parts vwith their orifices in alined relation to receive the parts aredrawn together and firmly held in assembled relation.
Y In the preferred form of the present construction, as shown more particularly in Fig. 3, the attaching lug 5 of each leg 3 has an offset arrangement so that its inner vertical face will be on the median vertical line of the leg. With such construction, legs Of a single counterpart formation can be em* ployed in that when arranged in reversed relation for assemblage the lug 5, of one leg will pass the lug 5 of the companion leg into proper assembly position.
I-Iaving thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In a table or the like, the combination of a pair of opposed legs formed with orificed lugs, a horizontal brace having enlarged hollow ends formed with orifices for the passage of said lugs, and an attaching bolt passing through an Vend orifice in said brace end and through the orifices of the aforesaid lugs and having a fixed head at on end and a clam-ping nut at the other en 2. In a table or the like, the combination of a pair of opposed legs formed with Orificed lugs, a horizontal brace of a channel form closed at its ends and having Orices in its vertical walls for the passage yof said lugs, and an attaching bolt passing through an end orifice in said brace and through the orifices of the aforesaid lugs and having a fixed head at orne end and a clamping nut at the other end.
3. In a table or the like, the combination 5 of a pair of opposed legs formed Ywith oriiced lugs each offset from the median line of the leg, a horizontal brace having enlarged hollow ends ormed'vvith orifices for the passage of said lugs', and an attaching bolt passing through an end orifice in said EL@ brace end and through the orifices of the aforesaid lugs and having a fixed head at one end and a clamping nut at the other end. Signed at North Chicago7 Ill., this 31st day of December, 1920.
FRED WESLEY 000K.
