Description

P. W. SHEEN.
OVEBALLS.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 18, 1921.
Patentgd Jan. 3, 1922.
PATRICK W. SHEEN, OF CLINTON, IOWA.
OVERALLS.
inoasso.
Application filed April 18, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK W. SHEEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clinton, in the county of Clinton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Overalls, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in overalls, and the object is to provide simple means whereby the lower ends of the legs thereof may be secured tightly around the ankles, leaving the remaining portions loose, thereby avoiding the chance of the same being caught in machinery or obstacles, and eliminating danger as a result thereof.
A further and important object is to so construct the means that it will eifectively hold and will add practicaly nothing to the expense of the garment.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of overalls equipped with the improvement, and showing the same in use,
Figure 2 is a detail longitudinal sectional view through a portion of one of the legs illustrating the manner of mounting the parts,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the lower end of one of the legs, with the contracting means in operative relation.
The overalls are designated generally by the reference numeral 4:, and may be of any desired structure, each of the legs consisting of a front section 5 and a rear section 6 joined together by side scams 7. Sewed into the lower ends of these seams are the terminals 8 of straps 9 that are doubled back or to the front of the garment, as will be clear by reference to Figure 2. On the free end of one of these straps is mounted a buckle 10 adapted to be engaged with the tree portion of the other strap.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 3, 1922.
Serial No. 462,297.
Each leg is equipped with a pair of'straps, and as clearly indicated in Figures 1 and 3, and when the straps are buckled together and drawn tightly the seams are drawn to the front and the surplus material thus tolded beneath the straps. This effectively holds the lower ends of the legs contracted about the ankles, while the remaining portions are loose for free movement. The securing of the straps, as shown, insures that they will neither pull loose nor tear the material. It will be obvious that the improve ment is inexpensive and will add nothing material to the cost of the garment.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Overalls comprising loose leg portions having front and rear sections secured together by seams at the inner and outer sides of the legs, straps for each leg portion, each strap having one end secured within a seam, means carried by the free end of one strap of each leg adapted to receive the free end of the opposite strap of said leg, whereby the overall leg may be drawn tightly about the ankle.
In testimony whereof I my signature,
in the presence of two witnesses.
