To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, HARVEY B. Rnrrn'rro, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Wheeling, county of Ohio, and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burners for Oil Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates broadly to oil stoves,and more particularly to a burner mechanism for such stoves.
The invention is directed to vertically movable oil burners of the type which embodies a head of circular trough form mounted upon a telescopic feed tube and carrying in the trough thereof an incombustible wick, and it has for its primary object to provide improved means for adjusting the elevation of the burner head and whereby the latter is maintained in its adjusted position. A further object is to provide a structure of the character mentioned which involves a minimum number of parts and which is relatively simple in construction pensive to manufacture.
lvVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the features of construction, arrangement of parts and'combinations of elementswhich will hereinafter be fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a transverse section of an oil stove embodying my invention;

Attached to the burner head 8, as by brazing or by means of bolts or rivets 10, is the upper end of a bracket 11 which embodies two depending wings of right-angle form in horizontal section, one such wing being located on each of two opposite sides of the tube 7. Each of the radially extending blades or members 12 of said wings is provided with 'a vertically extending slot 13 through which extends one of the resilient fingerslt of a forked operating lever 15 which is pivotally mounted intermediate its ends and which has its outer end projected outward through a vertical slot 16 provided shown a support which constitutes the subject-matter of an application, Serial No. 562,564, filed Apr. 19, 1921, by W. W. Holloway and Henry Kielberg, the same comprising a one-piece sheet-metal bracket 18 having tongues 19 struck up from the body thereof and'bent to form supporting members upon which the lever is pivoted.
Said lever 15 is composed of a strip of sheet-metal and has its body, or that portion intermediate the oppositely disposed spring fingers 1a and the finger-piece 20 provided at the outer end, formed by doubling the strip longitudinally upon itself along its median line, as shown.
Bolted to the inner face of the front casing wall 1 is a bracket 21 having a vertically disposed inwardly extending wing 21 having a face thereof flush with one edge of the slot 16 provided in said wall. Formed in said wing is a series of pressed-in sockets 22 adapted for the reception of a bead or button 23 formed on the adj acent side of the lever 15. Said sockets 22 are disposed in an armately curved line corresponding to the arc through which said button 23 moves with elevating and lowering movement of the lever. As said lever is elevated or lowered from one limit to the other, said button successively seats in said sockets, and, when so 7 seated, considerable force is required to unseat it for. effecting further movement. Thus, said lever and said bracket 21 provide means auxiliary to the spring finger device hereinbefore described for effectively holding the burner head in position against chance elevating and lowering movement.
What is claimed is 1. In a burner of the character described, a vertically movable burner head, members carried in fixed relation to said burner head, a pivoted operating lever, and oppositely disposed resilient fingers carried by said lever, said fingers being disposed to coact with saidmembers forshifting the position of the burner head when said lever is actuated and having said fingers in frictional bearing relation thereto for holding said head in adjusted position.
2. In a burner of the character described, a vertically movable burner head, angular wings carried in fixed relation to said burner head, a pivoted operating lever, and oppositely disposed resilient fingers interengaged with one member of each wing and disposed in frictional bearing engagement with the other member, said fingers being adapted,
upon actuation of said lever, to raise or lower said burner head against the frictional resistance offered by said finger-engaging members.
3. In a burner of the character described, a vertically movable burner head, a pivoted operating lever having oppositely disposed resilient fingers, and means carried in fixed relation to said burner head and interengaged with said fingers whereby the elevation of the former 1s adjusted through operation of saidlever, said means including 0rwings, said wings being apertured to receive said fingers and having portions in permanent frictional engagement with said fingers.

In a burner of the character described, a stand pipe, a feed pipe vertically movable in said stand pipe, a burner head carried by said feed pipe, wings depending from said burner head, a support, an operating lever pivoted intermediate its ends on said support, said lever having oppositely disposed spring fingers on its inner end, said fingers being engaged with said wings for imparting movement to said burner head through actuation of said lever, and means for maintaining said parts in adjusted position.

In a burner of the character described, a stand pipe, a feed pipe vertically movable in said stand pipe, a burner head carried by said feed pipe, wings depending from said burner head, said wings being of right angle form in horizontal section and one member of each wing having an aperture therein, a support, a lever pivoted intermediate. its ends on said support, and spring fingers carried by said lever projected through the apertures of said wing members, said fingers also being disposed in yielding pressure exerting relation to the other members of said wings wherebyrelative movement of said arts is frictionally resisted.

9. In a burner of the character described,
