Description

J. E. CLOUD AND H. F. STALTER nus STOP,
APPLICATION FILED MAY 21, 1919.
Patentei Dec. 27, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TAKES E. CLOUD AND HIBAM F. STALTER. OF HARPSTER, OHIO.
I'L'UE-STOP.
Application filed Kay 21,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we J AMEs E. CLOUD and HIRAM F. STALTER, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Harpster, in the county of Wyandot and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flue-Stops, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable flue stop adapted when in place to correspond w th the wall plaster of the apartment in which it is located and which is provided with means whereby it may be readily mounted and dismounted without marring the surface of the wall and without exposing the holding means.
With this end in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, it being understood that'changes in form and proportion may be resorted to within the scope of the clalms without departing from the principles involved.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a flue stop embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same.
Fi 3 is a detail view in perspective of the 0 amp members and the anchoring means therefor.
The body portion 10 of the flue stop preferably consists of a disk, of any deslred ornamental contour or surface configuration of plaster-Paris or composition adapted to be molded while in a plastic state, and in this disk is embedded a metallic reinforcement consisting, for example, of the anchor rods 11 and the connecting rods 12 which serve to strengthen the plastic structure and at the same time form a holding means for the clamp members 1.3 consisting of spring wire loops which project beyond the periphery of the disk for engagement with the side of the flue opening in a wall, the sides of said loops being engaged with eyes 14 in the anchoring elements 11 and having terminal lateral studs 15 which. being embedded in the material of the disk serve to prevent displacement of the loops. The offsets of the anchor elements forming the eyes 14 preferably extend approximately to the inner surface of the body portion of the device as shown in Fig. 2 and the loops are disposed at an inclination to the plane of the disk so as to dispose the studs 15 at Specification of Letters Patent.
1919. Serial No. 298,672.
the extremities of the loop in the body portion of the disk out of the plane of the reinforcing elements 11 and 12, so that in effect said terminal studs of the loop constitute a further reinforcing element for the disk and in cooperation with the elements 11 and 12 serve to strengthen the disk against fracture in use. The portions of the loops forming the clamps which are located outside of the plastic body portion and spring from the surface thereof at the points represented by the eyes 14 are free to bend in introducing the same into the flue opening and in removing the same when it is desired to displace the flue stop.
The invention having been described what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A flue stop having a molded plastic body portion in which is embedded a metallic reinforcement having anchoring elements provided with eyes which project substantially to the inner surface of said body portion, and looped clamp members having their side arms engaged with said eyes and their terminals embedded in the body portion to arrange the exposed portions of the loops in inclined positions with reference to the plane of said body portion.
2. A flue stop having a molded plastic body portion and an embedded reinforcement consisting of intersecting anchoring and connecting elements of which the former are provided with eyes extending substantially to the inner surface of the body portion, and looped clamping members having their side arms engaged respectively with said eyes and. having their extremities embedded in the body portion and provided with terminal lateral studs.
3. A flue stop having a molded plastic body portion provided with an embedded metallic reinforcement having anchoring eyes extended suliistantially to the inner surface of the body portion, and clamping members consisting of loops disposed at an angle to the plane of the body portion, having their side arms engaged with said eyes, and having their extremities embedded in the body portion with terminal lateral studs disposed in a plane in advance of that of said reinforcement.
In testimony whereof they afiix their signatures.
