Patented June 17. 1873.
Z2. K fi g AM PHOTD-LITHDSRAPHIC ca NX (asaomvs's Freacsm) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI THOMAS E. O. BRINLY, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,004, ate J 1116 17, 1873; application filed April 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. G. BRINLY, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a certain Improvement in Plows, of which the followin g is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in certain novel means for so combining the moldboard of a plow With the standard and the share that it will be held firmly in place without the use of bolts or clamps of any description.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the standard, share, and mold-board of a plow, constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the standard detached. Fig. 3 illustrates in perspective the back side of the share. Fig. 4 illustrates in perspective therear side of the mold-board.
The same letters of reference are used in all the figures in the designation of identical parts.
The standard A, made preferably of castiron, is constructed with the usual head a, for securing it to the plow-beam the heel a, for attachment upon its outer side of the steel land-side; and the curved obliquely-projecting flange A, forming a bearing for the share B, and the mold-board 0. At the upper end of the flange A, a lug or projection c is formed, the lower sharply-defined edge a of which is beveled, and has an offset at a as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The mold-board has a beveled edge at b, and an offset at b, snugly fitting under and against the projection 0 of the standard, as seen in Fig. 1. A dovetailed slot, 0, is formed in the outer side of the flange A, at a point about midway of the mold-board, upon the back of which is made a corresponding dovetailed lug, d, which enters the slot e, and together with the offset b, bearing against the ofi'set c prevents the mold-board from being moved horizontally beyond the land-side edge of the standard. The adjoining edges of the share and moldboard are defined by angular lines, as at f and g, and are beveled so that the share will lap over the mold-board at their junction. The ofi'set f, in the angular edge of the share faces the standard, and the oii'set g, of the mold-board hooking behind it, prevents the horizontal movement of the latter away from the land-side. The share is provided with the usual point B, which hooks onto the toe of the standard, and is fastened by a single bolt, N, to the flange A. A boss, f, is also formed upon the under side of the share, which fits into a corresponding recess in the flange A, of the standard, and steadies the share.
In connecting the parts described together, the mold-board must first he slipped into place on the standard, after'which the share is attached, which holds all the parts rigidly together.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The mold-board O b b g g d, in combination with the standard A c c c cf and the share B f f f", and bolt b all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
T. E. 0. BRINLY.
