UNITED srarss EMIL A. SLEDER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Yatent.
Patented Dec. 6, 1921.
Application filed April 10, 1920. Serial No. 372,778.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL A. SLEDER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Ad vertising Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein 'to the accompanying drawlngs.
This invention relates to an advertising device, and has special reference to that class of devices that may be advantageously used in windows, show cases or public places for displaying articles of merchandise or slgns' My invention aims to prov1de an advert1sing device embodying a plurality of rotary article or sign displaying members that may be operated in synchronism, not only to attract attention but to display articles or signs on all sides of the article or sign carrying members. In other words, a maximum article or sign display may be attained in a minimum space, which is a desideratum in show windows and'cases, particularly when the articles are of such a nature that display is practically impossible in bulk or without some cumbersome or large fixture.
My invention further aims to provide an advertising medium embodying rotary signs that may be continuously or intermittently rotated by a motor electrically driven from a suitable source of power or by any other type of motor that will operate the advertising medium for a predetermined time without attention. The motive power of the ad vertising medium may be carried thereby, and it is in this connection that the elements entering into the construction are largely stock parts, devices or instruments of com merce, so that in carrying out my invention very little in the nature of equipment is required.
My invention further aims to provide a durable and inexpensive advertising device that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the advertising device;
Fig. 2 is an end view broken away;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of a portion of the device showing a hanger bearing, and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional of the same partly together, for instance as view of a device.
To put my invention into practice I utilize sections of pipe or tubing, elbows, T connections and caps all of which are connected a plumbing job to form a rigid and durable framework. The base of the framework has A frames suitably connected together and provided with uprights and detachably mounted on the up rights is a top frame which cooperates with the base in supporting a plurality of rotary sign members adapted to have movement imparted to the lower ends thereof by a motor supported at one end of the base.
Considering the construction, such A frame comprises a four-way connection 1 having its ends provided with elbows 2 con nected to diverging legs 3 having the lower ends thereof provided with caps or feet 4. Each four-way connection has a T or three way connection 5 provided with a tubular upright 6 having a pin 7 fixed in its upper end.
The T or threeway connections 5 of the A frames are connected by a longitudinal memher 7 and suspended from said member at suitable intervals, are strap bearings 8 one of which is clearly shown in Fig. 3. The strap bearings 8 are clamped on the longitudinal member 7 and journaled in the lower ends of said strap bearings is a longitudinal driven shaft 9 which has its ends journaled in the four-way connections 1 of the A frames with one end of the shaft extending through one of the four-way connections and provided with a gear wheel 10. The gear wheel 10 meshes with a worm 11 journaled in a worm housing 12 supported by one of the A frames and the same A frame has a bracket 18 connecting its legs 3 and supporting an electric motor 14. The motor 14 has its armature shaft provided with a pulley 15 alining with a pulley 16 on the shaft of the worm 11, and a belt 17 is trained over the pulleys 15 and 16 so that the electric motor may drive the shaft 9.
The detachable frame which is mounted on the upright 6 comprises a longitudinal member 18 having its ends provided with elbows 19 and depending tubular members 20, the tubular members 20 having the lower ends thereof fitted over the upper protruding ends of the pin 7*. The longitudinal member 18 cooperates with the longitudinal member 17 in providing bearings for the joint adapted to form part of the or signs attached to both pintles 21 and 22 of sign frames 23 having article or sign supporting panels 2%, said frames and said panels being made of wood or very light and durable material, so that articles or signs may be repeatedly attached to the front and rear sides thereof.
' The pintles 22 have the lower ends thereof provided with beveled gear wheels 25 meshing with similar wheels 26 on. the driven shaft 9, and when the motor is placed in operation the article or sign carrying members are revolved in unison so that articles sides of said members will be displayed.
tractive so that it will attract considerable attention when placed on display.
One embodiment of my invention has been illustrated, but it is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations and'modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
T he device can be knocked down for shipment as a. small parcel What I claim is compr slng -A An advertising device frames, a longitudinal member connecting said A frames, hanger bearings carried by said longitudinal member, a driven shaft journaled in said hanger bearings and said A frames, a bracket carried by one of said A frames, means onsaid bracket for driving said shaft, uprights carried by said A frames, a top frame having its ends seated on said uprights, flat panel-like article and sign carrying members of less thickness than said top frame so that said membersmay lie in a common plane within said top frame, said membershaving pintles journaled in said top frame and said longitudinal member, and beveled gear wheels adapted to transmit a rotary movement to said article and sign carrying members from said driven shaft.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presenceof two witnesses. i
EMIL A. SLEDER.
