APPLICATION FlLED OCT. 13. 1913.
Patented Dec. 6, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST HOLSTE, OF BIELEFELD, GERIVIANY.
SHIRT.
Application filed. October 13, 1913.
Specification of Letters Patent.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L., 1313.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST HoLsrE, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing at Bielefeld, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a shirt of that type in which the ends of the neck band project slightly over the edges of the breast opening, a fiap being arranged at either side of the neck opening upon the lower surface of the shirt, to form pockets for the insertion of the upper ends of the removable front.
Experience has shown that it is diflicult to sew the flaps to the shirt after the shirt has been made and that the manufacturing cost is considerably increased thereby.- Besides the pockets do not improve the appearance of the shirt.
The purpose of this invention is, to considerably simplify the manufacture of these pockets which are very important.
According to the invention the flaps for forming the pockets for the reception of the upper ends of the removable shirt front are made in one piece, with the shoulder piece by making the lower layer of the double shoulder piece somewhat longer at the end turned toward the breast.
Owing to this invention the separate work of making the pockets is done away with, the shirt being greatly improved and reinforced on the front. As further a certain quantity of material is economized the shirt according to this invention is cheaper to manufacture than the shirts with separate pockets.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is shown by way of example Figure 1 is a front view of the shirt the upper right hand edge of the breast part being turned outward in order to better illustrate the invention.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 1-1 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows a soft shirt front to be used with the improved shirt.
The shirt a has a breast opening I; the edge 0 of which joins the neck band 6 arranged at the rear part of the neck opening 03. The ends 7 of the neck band slightly project over the edge 0 of the breast opening. The piece of material 9 which is designed to form the pockets is connected with the ends 7 of the neck band. The upper edges 71- (Fig. 8) of the removable shirt front 71 are to be inserted into said pockets. According to the invention the .pockets are formed by the extension 9 of the-lower layer is of the double shoulder piece Z so that the separate flaps for making said pockets are suppressed. In the pockets near the neck band button holes m or buttons can be arranged if it should be desired to separately fix the soft shirt front 2'. In this case the shirt front 71 has button holes at or buttons. If the shirt front has button holes, buttons of convenient construction are used for connecting the two parts.
This special fixing of the shirt front is however not obligatory.
I claim 1. A shirt comprising a body provided with an opening in its front and having a neck band open at its front, the opposite ends of the neck band extending inwardly over the edges of said opening in the front, flaps secured to the underside of the body at opposite sides of the front opening and having their inner edges extending into said front opening and connected to said inwardly projecting ends of the neck band,
the lower edges of said flaps being unconnected with the shirt and the neck band and cooperating with the shirt front to form oppositely disposed pockets at the upper front portion of the shirt, and a removable bosom provided with a neck band portion and whose upper corners adjacent its neck band portion have removable fit in said pockets.
2. A shirt comprising a body provided with an opening in its front and having a neck band, flaps secured to the underside of the front of the shirt and having their inner ends connected to the neck band and extending inwardly beyond the side edges of the front opening in the shirt, a detachable bosom whose upper corners fit removably in said pockets, and means for detachably connecting the upper corners of the bosom in said pockets.
3. A shirt comprising a body provided with an opening in its front and having a ment in said pockets and whose other edges neck band, flaps secured to the inner side of are arranged interiorly of the shirt. 1 the front of the shirt and cooperating With In Witness whereof I have hereunto set the latter to form oppositely disposed intemy hand in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
riorly arranged pockets at the upper front I AUGUST HOLSTE. portion of the shirt adjacent the lower edge Witnesses: 0f the neck band, and a removable bosom T. HENLEY REED,
whose upper corners have removable engage- HANS MISSNER.
