Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntgd Ngv. 29 1g21 Application filed March 9, 1920'. Serial No. 364,598.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY M. MONT-- GOMERY, a citizen of Cedar Vale, residing at Cedar Vale, in the county of Chautauqua and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in F ur- Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of an improved fur stretcher, designed to accommodate itself to furs of all small animals, and equipped with means for also stretching the tail and feet of the animal.
To this end, the invention combines with a stretcher of well known form, an elongated member upon which the feet and tail of the animal can be stretched, the said elongated member being removably and adjustably associated with the stretcher proper.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail construction is read in conned tion with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of' parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the stretcher showing the same in use.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the fur removed.
Fig. 8 is a side elevation.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 4. 4. of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a view of the stretcher with the elongated member removed.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the elongated member.
The stretcher forming the subject me,
ter of my invention comprises two' strips of suitable material indicated at 10 and having their corresponding upper ends 11 bent toward each other and pivoted together as at 12. The opposite ends of the strips are cut away as at 13 to provide suitable hand holds for adjusting the strips toward and away from each other as the occasion requires. The strips-10 are adjustable to accommodate themselves to furs of all small animals, being adapted to be positioned within the fur as shown in Fig. 1. For
holding the strips 10 fixed relatively in any given position, I provide a fastening bar 15 pivoted at one end to one of the strips 10, the opposite end being slidably fitted be tween the spaced pins 16 carried by the other of said strips 10. One edge of the bar 15 is notched as at 17 and any of these notches receive the upper pin 16.
In stretchers of this character there is usually no means provided for stretching the tail and feet of the animal, it being nec essary to connect these parts with the stretcher by means of strings. To overcome this objection I make use of an elongated member of any suitable dimensions, and constructed from any suitable material, this member being indicated at 20. The member is preferably of rectangular formation in cross section and provided in its opposite longitudinal edges with opposed communicating slots 21 through which the fastening bar' 15 extends. The elongated member is removably associated with the bar 15, so that the stretcher, if found necessary, may be used without the elongated member.
It is only necessary to detach the free end.
of the bar 15 from its associated strip 10, and remove the bar from the elongated member to separate the parts. In addition to this fact, the frame of the stretcher prefproper can now be moved with relation to the elongated member 20 which is arranged upon a table or other suitable support, so as to properly'position the tail and feet of the animal upon the said member. After the feet and tail have been stretched upon the member 20 they are secured to the latter by means of fasteningelements 22.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily understood, I desire to have it known that I do not limit;
myself to the details of construction herein shown and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fallwithin the scope ofwhat is claimed.
What is claimed is: 7 A fur stretcher comprising a pair of members pivoted at one end for movement to Ward and away from each other, a bar for 5 holding said members fixed relatively in ad justed position and an elongated member slidably mounted upon the bar, said elongated member comprising a pair of flat sec- .tions secured together and having their opposed faces formed With transverse l0 grooves to provide a barreceiving channel at one side of the transverse center of the el'ongated'member and fastening devices carried by said elongated member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. 15
