FIGURE TOY.
Application filed February 26, 1921.
T 0 (ZZZ w ham it may concern:
Be it known that l, BiiLA ZSARNAY, a citizen of Hungary, residing at Belleville, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in mechanical movement, and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a device for transforming a rocking movement into a vertically operating force, adapted for instance for the operation of toys or the like.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means by the intermediary of which the rocking movement of the base or" a toy is used to operate the wings, the tongue, and other members of a toy figure.
These and other objects of the invention will become apparent as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accomanying drawings, forming a material part of my invention, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side View of a toy in the form of a duck equipped with a device constructed according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a detail top plan view of the means for imparting motions to the wings and bill of the duck.
The toy 10, for illustrating purposes, shown here in the form of a duck is mounted upon a base 11, composed of two segmental elements or shoes 12 connected with each other by a transverse bar 13, and adapted to rock with their lower curved edges 14 upon a support, while their straight faces 15 are directed to above.
To the lower curved and grooved edges 14, in approximately their center, two flat springs or the like 16 are secured by ears 1'? or the like which carry pins 18 serving as pivot points to which the springs 16 are secured in approximately the middle.
The ends of the springs 16 carry pins 19 rectangularly disposed to the springs and adapted to be received in sleeves or sockets 20 at the lower end of arms 21 integrally made with horizontal arms 22 rectangularly disposed thereto, and made in one piece with vertical arms 23 rectangularly disposed to arms 22, the upper ends of which are piv- Specifioation of Letters Patent.

otally secured to pins 24; supported at their ends in the lower arms oi brackets 25 secured to the underside of wings 26, the inner ends of which are hingedly secured as at 27 to the underside of the wings and the body of the duck.
The body of the duck rests upon legs 28 and 29, one of which, 29 is extended to touch with its lower end the support between the shoes 12, as at 30 for a purpose hereinafter to be more fully explained. The upper end of 29 is extended into the body 10 as at 81 and carries on the outside a fixed collar 82, while a spring is wound around the leg 29 between said collar and the body 10.
Within the body 10, the leg 29 is bent in an angle to form an upwardly inclined part 34 and integrally therewith a vertical part 35 extending into the head 36 of the duck which is movably set upon the body 10. To the upper end of part 3% a link 37 is pivotally secured, to the free end of which a link 38 is pivotally secured forming the pivot point "for the lower movable part 39 of the bill 40 or the duck.
From the foregoing description it will be clear that when a rocking motion is imparted to the segmental elements 12, this motion will be transmitted to the springs 16 and by virtue of their connection with the arms 21, 22, and 23 to the wings 26 so that the same will execute a flopping motion. Simultaneously the leg 29 will engage during the rocking motion with its lower end 30 alternately the support and will impart through its intermediary connections a movement to the lower jaw 39 of the bill 40, opening and closing the same.
l hat I claim is- 1. In a device of the character described, a combination of a pair of rocker bars grooved at the underside with flat springs within the grooves of said bars, means for securing said springs in approximately their center to said bars, pins at the ends of said sprin s, rectangularly disposed thereto, links provided with sockets at their lower ends for the reception of said pins, arms integrally made with said links, and wings to which the upper ends of said arms are secured for flopping said wings upon the operation of the rocker.
2. In a device of the character described,
a pair of connected segmental rockers, fiat hinged to; a body of a toy representing a springs secured intermediate their length di ck and means for iinpartin to the jaws 10 to said rockers extending with their ends 01"" the bill of the duck an opening and closbeyond the same three armed levers secured ing motion upon the operation of said with the lower ends of one of said arms to rockers.
said springs, wings to the underside of In testimony whereof I have affixed my which the upper ends or" another of said signature.
arms are pivotaily secured, said wings being BELA ZSARNAY.
